Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center prostate cancer experts discuss a range of topics including new Veteran's Administration guidelines on age and prostate cancer screening, the costs of radiation therapy vs. surgery, the effectiveness of proton beam therapy in prostate cancer, the difference between benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer, chemopreventive drugs such as finasteride (Proscar) and dutasteride (Avodart), and the role of dietary supplements in prostate cancer care.

Let’s start grabbing some of these questions from folks in the audience so we can address them. If you’ve got some questions, you can hold them up or pass them down to the end of the isle and pass them along to the folks on the stage.
The overlying message that we are trying to get across is if you have the fancy new radiation machine, the new computerized brachytherapy technology or the robot, there is a saying in medicine that if you’ve got a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail. That said, make sure you ask the right questions to ensure that somebody is not trying to sell you something because they happened to have that toy and need to make sure that the toy gets used.
The analogy that I always tell people is, if you give me a horn, I’m not going to be able to play like Dizzy Gillespie. It’s not the trumpet, it is the trumpeter.
