Never occurred to me to cut off that fold. I thought it was for extra cushioning. I learn so much from you. Thank you!😄

This is one of the best instructional videos I have ever watched. The presenter was clear and concise and illustrated her points as she demonstrated. Making a dust jacket cover ended up being so easy after I was so anxious about doinf it wrong. This is an excellent website!! 😃

Such a seemingly simple task but can go so wrong if done incorrectly or half-hazardly.. as is the case with many aspects of book restoration & preservation.

Absolutely. It is hard to give enough warnings and still teach anything!

Mine are from “bodart” and acid free archival quality ❣️❤️ I have a roll and cut to length !! ☺️❣️”no Tape” at all on my books❣️💫✨library’s do use tape but you can cover the dust covers and apply the book covers without using tape at all and it stays on until you take it off .I tuck my front and back book leafs into the end flap vacant space instead of just folding the jacket over the book leafs. It’s tight and be genital it will fit but it won’t just fall off when you open the book. ♥️❣️

This is great, but with my Brodart cover I am sticking a bit on the part where you cut it with the kitchen knife, even though it was sharpened; it made the cover slightly not covering the dust jacket in part, and didn't cut cleanly. Scissors are not easy either.

Why wouldn’t you want to use archival repair tape to the backside of book cover to strengthen the torn areas?

I made a whole free course to answer this question. Basically you can, but there are some reasons it is better to use tissue and paste. saveyourbooks.com/course/3-102-how-to-use-archival-tape-to-repair-pages/

"Buy at you local book store"... With people buying everything online or reading books digitally (if any) my local book store is selling mostly postcards, puzzles and office supplies. Book selection is poor as well. I really like your channel and i love book repairing but I have big troubles finding necessary supplies.

You will have to go to Brodart or Gaylord or University Product etc... directly. I think so but I don't sell them.

So is putting tape on dust covers to hold it on the book is not necessary. What about when libraries do that? Is it bad for the book?
@SaveYourBooks
@SaveYourBooks 4 жыл бұрын
Tape is completely unnecessary for a personal library . Public Libraries do it to get more uses out of the book. The tape does damage to the covers so anyone who wants to preserve the value should not use tape. The goal of the library is more uses not preserving the value. cheers.

Hey, I have some books from the 60's - 70's marked up with yellow highlighter. I've tried rubbing with 70% alcohol, lime & lemon juice, nothing works! Do you have any tips? Thanks, -Chris

Hey there, I am so sorry I don't have better news. Highlighter soaks into the fibers and you can't get it out. :(

I'm actually surprised you kept that paper on. I thought it should be removed once the film got folded to fit the dust jacket

There are good reasons either way. I prefer to leave it on to keep the surface pH more even to avoid creating lines of shadow.
