I'm 99% sure that at least part of these were transmitted and there was a leaflet campaign in the early 1980s. I was in the a Royal Navy at the time and remember seeing them when I was home on leave. I

Partially true. They were not aired for their intended purpose, but segments of them were used in "Threads," when it aired on the BBC.

I saw this on Threads and then I found out what this was called on Oddity Archive.

These guidance videos from the cold war era about what to do in a nuclear attack is nothing short of creepy and depressing. The music is creepy too! The video might as well say "you're fucked my friend!" :(

It was thinking the population might want to know what to do in the advent of a nuclear war. These were never shown on TV.

I've already forgot which noise is which in the aftermath. If it happened it looks like it would have been radiation sickness for me

I bet this would have been more suited to a conventional attack, as these are a continuation of WW2 directives. Most likely, you'd have a conventional phase first, or that it would be a conventional war.

it had been shown in the 80's here in the UK 1983-84 if memory serves. it was at the same time that threads was broadcast as the Thatcher government really believed it was all about to go tits up

Do you remember in the 80's, we lived in everyday fear of nuclear war, it was all CND on the TV, and films like threads, and when the wind blows. It was a constant worry, I was only in my teens, but it was very scarey.
@Fercough2 жыл бұрын
Born in the 60s. Never been worried by this sort of thing as we'll all brown bread. Just carry on.

I'm so thankful about being 18 and not having to live with that constant fear everyday of my life. Especially knowing the absolutely useless tips., especially in the UK (I'm American) since the travel time is WAY shorter. But yeah, pretend that being in your house or laying in a ditch will stop a nuke.

It's so grim, you think about it for quite a while afterwords, easily worse than any modern goreporn horror film.

It has since been admitted that the tips in these videos were of no real value, but they hoped it would give the public something to occupy their minds and and time with, to ward off civil disobedience. This and the film Threads were scary shit for we children of the 70's and 80's.
