Of course there is a workaround for it -- as there are also ways around fences, steering wheel locks, cameras, etc -- but the point is to provide enough deterrence where intruders will reconsider entry. You could likewise say that a fence is "the most useless scrap known to man, anyone who's of reasonable physical condition could climb over it!" But fences, like the spikes, are not designed to be unbreakable. Rather, they add another layer of difficulty for intruders, making the cost of entry higher than they might be willing to pay.
