After surgery, your incisions need time to heal without getting wet. It is really unpleasant not to be able to shower for a week or more. Recovery from surgery is much faster when you feel better, and showering is a big help.
This video demonstrates a way to cover your bandages and incisions after surgery so you can shower without getting them wet. I have my patients do this, and they feel great much sooner. It's easy and really inexpensive.

This worked so well but I did have an issue the first time with the tape puckering and some water got in. So I used that elastic athletic tape (KT tape) to seal off the puckers and it worked like a charm. For anyone else trying this technique I suggest the above for added security. Also when you dry off you will want to dry off the plastic before removing it. I just used scissors to cut it off. Thanks again for the great tip. Made my recovery more comfortable.

Good idea! I’ll share that with patients. I couldn’t find a version of this stuff with wider tape.

Sam, Not sure that’s necessary depending on the incision closure type you had. If you do that, make sure you don’t cover you nose and mouth! Dr. K

Of course you should check with your surgeon, but this seals the incision off pretty well so your doctor may be OK with it.

This sheets are used by painters. It's not sterilized I think , then it's not safe to cover on the operated area. Dr please suggest some other material. Thank you 🙏

Your clothes and bedsheets aren’t sterilized either. Not trying to be cheeky, but how is that any different? I think it should be fine for the purpose of keeping the incision dry.

Great idea. I have painters tape. Going to add plastic for small abdomen hernia repair incision to shower in.
