Before that every one use to consume meat.(Except Bhramins) . And someone also pointed out that many Brahmins use to eat meat. If you know about Bamachar tantra, the basic rule is to consume Tamsik Food including meat and alchohal. I am from west bengal and I am very familiar about this process.

But as Indians we should eat less carbs because we are more Insulin Resistance according to Studies. I believe that one should consume meat to an extent where it helps them develop their health, however, one should not become attached to it. This I believe is what people fear the most, that we'll become a ruthless society which kills countless animals just for the pleasure of our tongues. This fear is what creates a stigma associated with meat eating. Eat to live, don't live to eat is the right mindset. If one can do that, then they will always have control over Sattva, Rajas and Tamas.
