I joined the Church today!! Thanks for being such a great witness through my journey! 😊 God bless you so much Mr Fradd! I realized I never answered the question 🤦🏻‍♀️ My first experience was I went with my friend’s family on their vacation. I didn’t know any better so I took communion. I’ve wondered if that contributed to my later conversion

I am a convert to Byzantine Catholicism from a protestant background. My first Divine Liturgy blew me away. When the priest held up the chalice containing the eucharist I also had a profound experience, where I felt like my eyes were opened, and I could feel the great weight of my sins on my shoulders. I literally felt like I weighed 1,000 pounds, and was crushed by it.

My first mass was a novus ordo and I was surprised it was so much like a protestant church, I was disappointed to be honest. I did find a Latin Mass and absolutely was blown away adored it. Then corona hit so I've just been learning about the faith so I can convert asap when I can get back to Latin Mass.

MORTALIUM ANIMOS
ENCYCLICAL OF POPE PIUS XI
ON RELIGIOUS UNITY “9. These pan-Christians who turn their minds to uniting the churches seem, indeed, to pursue the noblest of ideas in promoting charity among all Christians: nevertheless how does it happen that this charity tends to injure faith? Everyone knows that John himself, the Apostle of love, who seems to reveal in his Gospel the secrets of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and who never ceased to impress on the memories of his followers the new commandment "Love one another," altogether forbade any intercourse with those who professed a mutilated and corrupt version of Christ's teaching: "If any man come to you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into the house nor say to him: God speed you."[18] For which reason, since charity is based on a complete and sincere faith, the disciples of Christ must be united principally by the bond of one faith. ...How so great a variety of opinions can make the way clear to effect the unity of the Church We know not; that unity can only arise from one teaching authority, one law of belief and one faith of Christians. But We do know that from this it is an easy step to the neglect of religion or indifferentism and to modernism, as they call it. Those, who are unhappily infected with these errors, hold that dogmatic truth is not absolute but relative, that is, it agrees with the varying necessities of time and place and with the varying tendencies of the mind, since it is not contained in immutable revelation, but is capable of being accommodated to human life. ....For the teaching authority of the Church, which in the divine wisdom was constituted on earth in order that revealed doctrines might remain intact for ever, and that they might be brought with ease and security to the knowledge of men, and which is daily exercised through the Roman Pontiff and the Bishops who are in communion with him, has also the office of defining, when it sees fit, any truth with solemn rites and decrees, whenever this is necessary either to oppose the errors or the attacks of heretics, or more clearly and in greater detail to stamp the minds of the faithful with the articles of sacred doctrine which have been explained.” In short if you want unity, return back to the one true Church of Jesus Christ The Catholic Church in whom you have split from.

My first Mass experience: I thought I would hear a lot more about Mary than I did. It was ALL about God. I didn’t expect that! I also expected to hear a more works based message than I did. I heard the Gospel from the Catholic Church day 1. And noticed everything was about the Gospel. After that I started looking into what is officially taught and practicing devotions of the Church (namely Stations of the Cross) and I was hooked.

I agree. You read at least three passages from the Bible and sing at least a psalm plus the Lord's prayer. This is way more scripture than I got going to any of the protestant denominations I've been a part of. So that really surprised me since you often hear that Catholicism doesn't use the Bible. I also loved in the beginning where the congregation prays to recognize their sins.

Danilo Ferreira thanks, but to be absolutely truthful, many people like me, and particularly theologians who actually study church history extensively have a very hard time and are often very lonely lol. We have to deal not necessarily with theological debate as much as simple willful ignorance and sometimes even hatred. I have faced this from catholics too. There are so many misconceptions about protestants as well. I truly feel this is human nature. I happen to grow up in a very unique environment which blessed me with wanting to learn about church history. Father is theologian and his mentors are a catholic priest and an anglican priest. They are extremely close to my family. Still have fond memories of spending time with them. Also, I have two old friends in clergy: Presbyterian pastor and a Roman catholic priest. Knew each other from middle school. We meet sometimes and talk about life and theology, difficulty of them being ministers. I don’t think many protestants even know a single catholic well enough to even see how they live and serve Christ. To be frank I am not a good representation of the protestant population, but I always defend misconceptions of all my Christian brothers.

Eastern Catholicism is an offshoot of Eastern Orthodoxy and the liturgy and traditions remain very much Orthodox. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9mdfs6mscCtXX0.html It's just that they accepted the authority of the Pope but remained loyal more or less to Orthodoxy rituals and Greek language like the Greek Melkite Catholics, Maronites, Eastern European Catholics etc . The Oriental Catholics are very similar to above but also with the added extra step of becoming Chalcedonians as Oriental Orthodox did not adhere to the Chalcedonian principals. Thus Armenian Catholics coming out of Armenian Apostolic Church, Syriac Catholics coming from Syriac Orthodox Church, Coptic Catholics coming out of Coptic Orthodox, the Chaldean Church coming out of the Church of the East (Assyrian, so-called Nestorian although that's not literally true). Keyon Mackey - I will say again, the words come from Scripture. I did not say that it meant pray, but then again, it does not say, “Do not pray.” Further, you cannot defend your position merely by asking for the definition of “Hail”. The prayer could even begin with “Greetings” it still would not detract from the acknowledgment and subsequent petition, “Pray for us sinners.” The prayer is merely an acknowledgement of who Mary is and one petition, nothing dramatic or even resembling worshiping or blasphemy. On a motivation that we petition Jesus’ mother read John 2:3-11. And further, if you wish, John 19:26. See if you understand the significance.

When we pray to Mary, we are asking her to pray for us. We don’t worship her. It is similar to you asking a very close friend to pray for you. When you do that, you aren’t worshiping your friend. We are still on the 6th Major Octave (The choice of God's prodigal children to return to The Father). The 7th Major (The FIAT of God's children). Fiat meaning, our YES to God. Just like Mary when she said Yes to God's will for her by accepting Jesus to be her Son. To be in her womb even if it means people would stone at her because she is not married yet. @@johnharkness6304 I agree with the teaching that the saints are not "dead" since they have eternal life. I just meant physically dead. The only time I can think of where someone spoke with a dead saint in the Bible was when Saul spoke with Samuel through a spiritual medium (1 Samuel 28:6-20). The Lord seems to specifically condemn those who would comunicate with the dead (as in, those not physically with us) (Isaiah 8:19). I understand prayer to the dead and spiritual mediums are completely different things, but it's the closest paralel I find in scripture.

@J Holts Yes, this is true of Orthodoxy, too! "There is no complexity in God, only simplicity; He is indivisible & not comprised of parts. Belief in the perfection of the Divinity excludes the possibility of dividing God into parts, since every partial being is imperfect. 'What does the simple nature mean in essence?' asks St. Gregory the Theologian. He answers by saying that if reason desires to investigate the infinite God, it will not find any beginning or end because the boundless extends further than either beginning or end, and cannot be located between them; and when reason surges upwards or downwards trying to find boundaries or limits to its concepts of God, it does not find them. The absence of all boundaries, divisions, & limits is the simplicity abiding in God." -The Mystery of Faith by Met. Hilarion Alfeyev

Through the Holy rosary we meditate and glorify the scriptures and life of Christ.

Hey Cameron, my wife and I grew up Protestant, and recently started studying church history starting just after the apostles, and it pointed us to the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic. We are in the midst of joining the Roman Catholics. There are so many resources out there that are helpful as I had lots of objections and they were all answered, even with Scripture. Catholic.com is one of those great resources. Two others, if you Google who started your church, there is a website with a PDF chart that shows the history of the church, very helpful! The other is a quote by Cardinal Newman - "to be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant". I sure found this to be true.

I grew up attending a Lutheran congregation, and very often found myself with Catholic friends and classmates and feeling very at home with them. A common joke when splitting people up for sports teams as a kid, the Catholics and wannabe-Catholics (or Catholic-Lites, that is, the Episcopal and Lutheran kids) would be grouped together. About the colors and their meaning Gold Gold is reserved for Jesus Christ. No wonder, many Eastern Orthodox icons have lots of gold elements, from halos and background to pure gold leaf. This brilliant color symbolizes the divine nature and the uncreated light of God Himself. After all, there is no night in God’s kingdom, only eternal day. 2. Blue Blue stands for heaven or the Kingdom of God that is not on this earth. Being a symbol of another everlasting world, it additionally shows the infiniteness of the sky. Besides, dark blue is also the color of the Mother of God and is usually used in the religious icon paintings to show her heavenly nature. 3. Red Red signifies life on earth. It is a symbol of life-giving energy, love, passion, and certainly Christ’s sacrifice. Since it is the color of blood, red represents the saving nature of the resurrection. Therefore, some hand-painted icons have a red background to symbolize the true celebration of life. 4. Green Green is the color of eternal renovation, hope, flowering, youth, and nature. In Eastern Orthodox iconography, it is usually used to denote where life begins (for example, in the scenes of the Nativity of Jesus Christ and the Annunciation). 5. White White stands for divine light, purity, and holiness. In religious icons, white clothes usually indicate people who were honest and good in life. Besides, white is also used to depict the robes of angels, the shrouds of the dead, and the swaddling clothes of babies. 6. Black Being a symbol of death and evil, black is usually used to depict satanic beings, demons, and the infernal abyss. However, don’t think that all monks in black robes are an embodiment of evil. In such a case, black is simply used as part of the traditional dress or a symbol for renunciation of secular pleasures. 7. Purple Purple is the color of royalty, which was most commonly used in the Byzantine religious icons. It is intended to show the glory of Jesus Christ and the Mother of God. It is also worth noting that the only color that is never used in Eastern Orthodox iconography is gray. Being a mixture of white and black, it has become the symbol of vagueness and emptiness. As you might have already guessed, there is no place for such a color in the radiant world of beautiful religious icons.

Kathleen, I am a Eucharistic Minister, both in the Roman Catholic church, and I visit the sick when necessary but mostly on Sundays to administer to them Holy Communion. Holy Communion as you know is very very sacred. Its very name means "Common Union" with God. Its a relationship which is personified only in the Catholic Church. Other Christian denomination also have Communion maybe once a month or more but this gesture is only symbolic. It has no meaning as that bread has no divinity.
@JaakkoJohannes
@JaakkoJohannes 4 жыл бұрын
@@riseandshine5912 Communion is for everybody who follows Jesus. Do not think you can divide the body of Christ with institutions and Churches of men. The apostles didn't have fancy church rituals like you(Infact they warned about doing such things in the sciptures), nor is this the way they received communion. I take communion everyday, at home, just like the apostles. I don't go to church, church can not save you, only Jesus can save you. It is important to understand that the bread is the literal body of Christ, but each sect has their own way of approaching communion and God honors their efforts. All churches of men have strayed away from the Truth. Do not think going to a building means anything. Point is, the church you go to and the denomination you belong to is irrelevant. Go to a church if it helps you, but do not think you can divide Christ, Christ is one. Not everyone who goes to a Church is saved and not everyone who doesn't go to a church is unsaved.

That's ok! Not at all my friend. My wife is well educated and also knows her scripture so we have always agreed that our religious beliefs are essentially the same. More alike than different. End of the day every single thing she believes comes from my church. The very name Protestant means to protest the authority of the Catholic Church. Oooo like it’s a boogeyman or something. Incase you don’t remember all Christians were Catholic until 500 years ago this guy Martin Luther an excommunicated priest started a moment revolting against a corrupt Catholic Church called the Protestant movement which was heavily involved in government at the time amongst over issues. Anyway Protestants are Christian brothers who don’t like the traditions passed on by the church fathers. When we were dating we would go to each other’s churches because her Protestant church in la was like an all day thing. with really good food the whole works. So I would always go. Since hers was so long she never had issues going to mass with me. When we moved to Arizona we would go check out all the churches and the Protestant churches here are way different believe different things of course and none are like her old church. They are all like rock concert, day care, want your money and help with recruitment types in our area here. So for utility we would go to mass as a family because I was busy so was she we had our hands full and just appreciated the consistency of the 1 hour mass schedule vs the rock concerts would carry on and then they want you to stay and eat and play and yeah like I mentioned. It’s an all day thing. So after attending mass for a while she began to get curious about it ask me questions which lead to her conversion. Like most Protestants attend a Catholic mass and would say “wow it’s really boring.” Stand up sit down kneel rinse and repeat lol oh yeah they are always surprised all the art and statues are of Jesus and not The Virgin Mary like they think some lies about all that. priests wear strange cloths and whatever else . And I say ya I know the traditional I love that stuff. And I really do. So I like the old traditional. So she would ask more and more and everyone knows Protestants who dig into the early followers of Jesus and what they believed and how they worshipped god vs this new jeans wearing rock concert promoting pastors who are most certainly more often than not, building their own personal kingdom’s and not god’s kingdom. Like I said earlier take her in and let her be surprised by what an amazing church the Catholic Church really is.

As a Catholic who never attended an Eastern Rite Church, I was really impressed with the beauty of the church and how you explained the icon of Mary. I had never heard of that pious story! We do have a small Maronite Church in our diocese I’d love to visit but haven’t yet. What I don’t understand is if you are changing Rites, why do you need to notify your bishop? Could you tell me where your church is located? I love the idea of you both doing a You Tube Channel, maybe just discussing anything that comes to mind, like the old TnT videos with TYlor Marshall and Tim Gordon.

The question of changing from Maronite church to Catholic came up in my parish. Our priest said permission must be received ( l think from Marion Church) in order for a person to enter the Roman Catholic Church.

Matt, if you enjoy the Eastern Catholic tradition, why have you not chosen the Eastern Orthodox Church? If the historicity of the Catholic Church appeals to you with the Eastern Orthodox traditions, why not join the church that has far less altered theology and the traditions you love?
