Simplifying the situation and saying this is about liquified gas prices doesn't really seem fair. Yes, the protests started initially because of that but it is important to mention that people are tired and have been for a very long time. They are fed up with all the corruption and other problems caused by the government. The feeling of discontent has been there for a very long time. The liquified gas is more of a tipping point, which is why people continued protesting even after the government decided to reduce the prices again.

So happy you and your loved ones are ok. Feeling really sorry for the poor people who were hurt or killed. We have been following these events closely in Belgium. Without going into politicus, it always starts with calm peaceful protests coming from a deep (often genuine) discontent but then thugs are joining to kill, robb and then comes the army basically not solving anything. It might be calm now but nothing has been solved. Wishing you the best and hoping to come to 🇰🇿 in 2023.

I was waiting for this video anxiously, i follow you but don't know you personally and i was so worry about your safety, also thinking if you had enough water and food to isolate at home. I can not imaging how terrifying this was and i felt powerless not being able to help but give you and dear people in KAZ some support and comforting words. Riots are the worst, some criminals and bad people unfortunately take advantage of this and terrible things happen. It is not just in KAZ but is happening all over the world, our world is in chaos and i urge you to prepare for emergency situations, always be prepared to minimize your stress while surviving something like this. To defend yourself get Bear spray (protect your eyes and nose while using it), is better than a weapon. I am very glad you and your friend are ok, i am very glad everything went to normal quickly. Thanks for the video :)

I’m in Atyrau and we heard there was a huge protest in the main square here on January 4th. There had been previous protests over the Chinese buying up Kazakh land a few years ago, so We had no idea protests would spread across the entire country! It has been absolutely crazy here in Atyrau too and we also had five days with no internet. We are trying to get back to Almaty where I work but our flight got cancelled last Saturday because the airport in Almaty was closed down. We are in Atyrau at my wife’s mom’s apartment to celebrate Christmas and New Year and got stuck here. We were able to get a ticket back to Almaty finally for Jan. 18. I hope we can get back to Almaty!

Stay safe, be carefull, the goverment made people very mad this year, so this year can be dangerous, the politician every where and as well as average people saying it will bring more and more people, more than 70 places were protesting those days, it started with liquified gas doublaed, then it brought protestors to political system change, so the goverment didnt want give their throne, because of that, internet was cut and phone net too, to do thie chaos, because 5 days people didnt do anything bad, and in when it was coming to 6 day of protesting they cut the internet! Then everything bad started, everyhting logically simple actually...

American here. I've been visiting my wife and daughter here in Almaty. We're about a 10-15 min walk from Republic Square and could certainly here the flashbangs and gunshots the first night and each night proceeding. From my POV this was the Coronavirus shut down of 2020 the BLM riots (and looting) and the January 6th attack on the US Capitol building all rolled into one. Thankfully for us most everything seemed to be contained to Republic Square as well as Abay Ave but a block north and a block south (most) everything seemed to be fine. I was surprised the small shops nearby were able to keep things in stock and keep a steady enough replenishment going. I think the larger Magnum and Ramstore grocers got slammed and closed. Thankfully no problems with Police and no problems with people pointing fingers at me as a foreigner. I don't know enough about the current policies to know if things will be changed for the better but let's hope for a little more calm on both sides going forward and less casualties.

It must be awful living in a dictatorship. I hope to see freedom for Kazakhstan in my lifetime.

the system is to complex.. its not an apparent dictatorship.. like thailand, singapore, belarus or eritrea... its a complex hybrid... the methods of control are varied and complex, they have the remaining apparatus of the former soviet union.. nothing is as clear as one would think..

@@manchagojohnsonmanchago6367 That's factually incorrect. Kazakhstan has a dictator as president. There are not political freedoms in Kazakhstan, it is a Russian puppet state right now, unfortunately.

@@manchagojohnsonmanchago6367 If the previous Communist leader becomes the "1st President" of the now "freed" country and rules for 30 years, that's clearly a Dictatorship with a capital "D." And if that Dictator, under the protest of the citizens, "Old Man Get Out," *assigns* his successor as "president," and then appoints himself as "ruler for life" at the head of national security, renames the capital city after himself and erects a giant statue of himself in the square, dude, YOU ARE LIVING IN A *DICTATORSHIP.*

I wanted to move to Kazakhstan and start a berry farm , then I read that Kazakhstan had passed a new law prohibiting foreigners from buying or leasing farm land . This was so unexpected all my plans were just gone . Now I see this and I think Kazakhstan is keeping out farmers but allowing murdering agent provocateurs in . I know my problems are nothing in comparison to what happened there , but it feels frustrating .
