You got in wrong . Top left is the mass number . bottom left is the atomic number.

Yes that is true for symbolic notation. What we refer to here is the number in the top of the square on the periodic table. The number at the top of the square on the periodic table is the atomic number. The number at the bottom is the average atomic mass. The mass number is not found on the periodic table.
