If you're going to try to debunk a economic professor properly, it's going to take more than a sentence. Explain yourself or manifest no change in people's minds. Address a particular argument Dr. Wolff made and creat a real critique. No effort = no results.

@@limitisillusion7 Michael Hudson has done that very well...historically and economically...as have many others. Be easier if you could find anything significant in this filibuster that has any critical relevance to anything...since it is essentially misdirection and misrepresentation, especially with regard to the "new deal" and what followed. As for the differences between Hudson and Wolff here are a few: Wolff understands and agrees that "democracy" leads to "oligarchy"? Wolff understands and agrees that the "rentier ( F.I.RE ) sector" is NOT capitalism? Wolff understands and agrees that Marx expected capitalism to end the rentier aristocracy that was the dominant economic model of the 17th,18th and 19th centuries? Of course, the biggest problem with Wolff is none of you actually know what he has said or verified its factual accuracy...or what the words employed actually mean. You just hear the moral posturing and the prognostications of doom since you are a "victim" of the present system...but you have no clue why it is true or the nature of the "system" you are dealing with...and it's not "capitalism". He doesn't know what inflation is or its source, he doesn't even understand that his co-op solution IS capitalism. But please feel free to cite anything that he has said that is truly significant or explains anything...in any significant way.

@@jgalt308 Watch "Richard Wolff explains 3 kinds of socialism." Pay very close attention to the third kind he explains. At no point does he state this third kind of socialism (which is effectually worker owned co-ops/unions/democratization of the work place) is mutually exclusive to capitalism. This is why the nuance is important. Socialism has many definitions, some more opposed to capitalism than others. I always find it funny when someone claims they know better than an economic professor, only to cite someone else's argumens because they can't actually explain why they know better. You made it very clear what you think Wolff doesn't know, but you completely failed to say what you know. Where I'm from, we call that "talking out of your a**." A person who critisizes without offering a critique and an alternative is offering nothing of value, and again, that's why you will manifest no change in people's minds. You're simply not adding any new ideas to the conversation. You did make sure to project beliefs onto me which I find cute. The underlying "nature of the system" we are dealing with is sociological before it is economical. Wolff understand the sociology that guides the economy very well. To conquer you must divide. To divide you must control. To control, you must manipulate. To manipulate, you must indoctrinate. We call this be process a divide and conquer strategy. There are no winners to this strategy in the long run. It claims everyone as victims. The third definition of socialism seeks to end the divide and conquer strategy before it claims us all.

I have absolutely no doubt Dr Wolf is concerned about the state of the world and care with all his heart, but I do believe he lives in an ivory tower and dreaming about an impractical world that will never be. There is a reason why communism and collectives fail and that reason is that empathy is not scalable. I can't care for my countrymen as much as I care about my family. I can't care of another countrys countrymen as much as I care for my own etz. I think he's got a delusional idea about "Profits" and "Surplus" as if it is an evil of this world. If you understand the pricing mechanism the way Milton Freidman explained it (Milton Friedman - I, Pencil) you'd understand that everybody who's willing to engage in mutual beneficial labor will improve their situation, never at the cost of anybody else. And when it comes to the market crash of the 1930:s. Yes that was horrible, but it was WORSEND by the newly established government institution of the federal reserve, who decided to engage in monetary tightening, when they should have done the opposite. (I don't blame them, the "tools" in their toolbox were new and they didn't fully know how to use them). However the fact remains that the great depression were "great" - not because of free market capitalism, but because of government involvement (Less free market capitalism).

@@MrMljungholmI tend to think you are correct in that "empathy is not scalable" but Socialism is not an "empathy" scaled to a larger group. Socialism is an economic system that makes very good criticisms of Capitalism and proposes rational solutions for those criticisms. Please don't reply with the "socialism has never worked" trope. Professor Wolff absolutely nails it. He is one very clued in dude. Personally I would argue that socialism is in fact the default human condition. In times of war those who condemn socialism ironically turn to it. If gathering a body of soldiers tasked with defending and protecting the larger whole of a society is not basic socialism, what is it. What makes members of a society prepared to risk their own personal safety and well being in order to sustain the safety and well being of others?

Why I no longer stand with Israel, and never will again An excerpt : The Gates of Gaza “The attackers came at dawn, quickly occupying the town. The men were separated from the women and shot. One of the attackers, opening the door of one of the homes, found an old man standing there. He shot him. ‘He enjoyed shooting him,’ an eyewitness to the attack said afterwards. Soon the town was empty-the entire population of 5,000 had either been killed or expelled, those who survived put on trucks, and driven to Gaza. The empty homes were looted. ‘We were very happy,’ one of the participants said afterwards. ‘If you don’t take it, someone else will. You don’t feel you have to give it back. They were not coming back.’” It sounds like a narrative torn from the front pages of today’s newspapers, one of many such stories-too many to count-describing the atrocities inflicted on the civilian populations of Israeli towns and Kibbutzes adjacent to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. But it is not. Instead, it is the recollections of Yaakov Sharett, the son of Moshe Sharett, one of the fathers of Israel, a signatory to Israel’s Declaration of Independence, and Israel’s first Foreign Minister, and second Prime Minister. Yaakov Sharett was recounting the seizure of the Arab town of Bersheeba, in 1948, by Israeli soldiers, during Israel’s War of Independence. As a young soldier serving in the Negev Desert in 1946, Sharett was appointed mukhtar-or chief-of one of eleven teams of soldiers-part of the secret “11-Points Plan” designed to establish Jewish outposts in the Negev Desert that would serve as a strategic foothold in the region when the anticipated war between Israeli Zionists and Arabs broke out. --------------- The Arabs of Abu Yahiya provided Yaakov and his fellow Zionists with fresh water and would often guard the property of the Kibbutz while the men were away on work. There was an understanding between the leaders of Abu Yahia and the Hatzerim Kibbutz that they would be allowed to remain once Israel took control of the Negev. Instead, when war came, the Kibbutzniks from Hatzerim turned on their Arab neighbors, killing them and driving the survivors away from their homes forever. -------------- The slaughter and physical eradication of the village of Abu Yahiya, the town of Bersheeba, and the 245 other Arab towns and villages in the Negev by Israeli settlers and soldiers has gone down in history as the Nakba, or “Catastrophe.” The Palestinians, when speaking of the Nakba, do not only address the events of 1948, but everything that has transpired since then in the name of the post-1948 sustainment, expansion, and defense of Zionism that defines modern-day Israel. Israelis do not talk about the Nakba, instead referring to the events of 1948 as their “War of Independence.” Most of the survivors ended up living in Gaza! @@adrianariaratnam5817 It just seems like the conclusion is a little bit ridiculous. War crimes have been committed on both sides. "Who started it" is never going to be answered, and even if it was Israel it hardly matters now. People should always be open to peace between both sides and a changing of viewpoints and administrations. And that means standing with Israel, as well as standing with Palestine, when the time comes, instead of being blindly opposed to one faction in perpetuity for the rest of time because of one atrocity that took place in the 1950s.

They have brought the oppression on themselves, time and time again, including by their most recent gift to humanity, demonstrating the savagery still available in the lizard brain dormant in most of us. Aside from absorbing and regurgitating their stale propaganda, the 'innocent victim' fetish, if you want to help them, persuade them that their only path to peace is by declaring and committing to it: peace is victory. Anything short of that brings them more of what they have.

Only one lesson here: never let Richard Wolff corner you at a party. He speaks here for, like, 30 uninterrupted minutes on a topic that has nothing to do with anything the host cares about. (And never mind that the host probably already knew everything that Wolff said. Wolff never bothers to find out)

Always appreciate Prof. Wolff's takes on things. Disagree with his take on the beneficence of the USSR (read too much Solzhenitsyn) but every time I hear him I learn something new.

You should bear in mind that Solzhenitsyn, in later life, admitted that large parts of his Gulag opus was, er, not necessarily ' correct ' ( if you know what I mean).

Disagree all you want, but history is on the professor's side as Solzhenitsyn's account has been conclusively debunked has what it always was: fiction written from an anti-bolshevik stance.

Yes but bear in mind it is composed of hundreds of stories he heard in the Gulag - it's an impressive feat of memory - and necessary in a society dedicated to burying any memory of the 'bad' from the era@@xzox

To say, er, not necessarily “correct” leaves plenty to the imagination, are you suggesting he “admitted to” playing things up or was it down? Maybe you think that means he wove in fabrications? Please expand on, “er, not necessarily “correct”.” Otherwise we can go on knowing that if it’s in his book, however it seems played, the substance of the matter occurred. And, if you cannot expand on “er, not… correct” we will figure the character flaw is not Solzhenitsyn’s it is yours, by er, deception, attempting to downplay the suffering and death of millions.. You are a really disgusting person. For anyone interested, there is another important Solzhenitsyn work, worth reading.

As long as one side refuses to negotiate there is no political solution, this is a definitive reality; To expect a peaceful resolution under these circumstances is insanity as Einstein would put it The Ukraine backed by the US insisted on war, Israel in the same way insists on war; These are not diplomatic failures, they are warmongering Peace is easy, it takes great effort to make war but it is a lucrative endeavor for the wicked

Trending 2 -PaulTeich-©️10/31/2023 When random acts of kindness are trending through the land When kind becomes the magic word And the thing we do is lend a hand We won’t worship a bird of prey, but one of peace and love When kindness is trending, instead of snuggies and skittles Everyone will have homes No one will be starving for vittles There will be full bellies at dinner tables instead of bombs If our minds move in the direction of our most dominant thought Peace, love and kindness is, perhaps what we ought Steering away from bread and circuses Rather to help the needy with health and human services Brothers and sisters we are all one Separation is painful from the real and the unicorn And it is surely not as much fun As to live in a democracy, not in need of agrarian reform The trend today it’s for the rich not to share Poor people are not vulgar we need to learn to care Paul Teich. “The Poet”. 2023 Love you Richard
