The opening line of the first verse "i write what I like" is genius and sets the backdrop for the whole verse because it references Steve Biko's book title. Proverb is a godfather of rap in South Africa. Big bro doesn't get the respect he fully deserves at home.

What you guys missed is that "I write what I like" was a Book title by Steve Biko who was like a Malcolm X to South Africans during apartheid. Which is the inspiration behind this song title.

Now this is some rap I can get into! I grew up in the 90’s and I’m more into rock and metal, but I remember a lot of rap/hip-hop in the 90’s and early 2000’s that was straight fire-even the mainstream shit. I appreciate creativity, innovation, and authenticity in all music, qualities that IMO have been severely lacking in rap for a while.. But maybe I haven’t been looking enough into the indie, underground, and non-American scenes!
