If they paid more per trip, i would take all trips. As it stands, i only take trips where i can make money, this is not a charity. Gas is expensive, cost of living is high.

they don't give enough time to fully decide whether a ride is worth it. A lot of times I'll accept a ride cause it looked ok but then while I have more time to think it over I'll change my mind

Professor, you are spot on. Uber only wants to consider us an independent contractor when it benefits them to do so. Otherwise, they treat us like employees. Drivers need to band together and really fight for our independent contractor rights.

They don’t like when you cancel too much especially if you cancel and select not a safe place to pick up. I did that a couple of times and the flag my account. They don’t care about the drivers they just came about making money . And that CEO he suck he should get fired.

I used to not affect the cancelation rating if you picked "not safe". It is so wrong that they have changed this and used it against us!! I have learned that I must hold the spot if I have arrived. and collect the cancelation fee in order for it to not affect the rating. I arrived the other night to pick someone up, who was so drunk she could not stand or walk. I had to drive a bit away, people were yelling and walking fast towards my car as I moved. I also do this when the most entitled college kids want to pack 5, 6 or even 7 into my car.. I collect that fee.. I call it an "education fee". Teaching them, NO, you are NOT entitled to load my car with that many people!

I’m in Chicago , that bad neighborhood isn’t worth to risk your life, mostly of the time there’s SURGE , bcz no one want to drive that wild people, that’s why i have 20% cancellation rate , even is surge is 100$ no way to go there, last year two ride share were fatally shot

Yes a lot of drivers are cancelling too often, 7 minute wait time for a 2 dollar trip no way. The customer is there ok not there move on to the next one. Most place downtown roads are blocked and no place to stop why will I risk standing in a place I can get fined blocking the traffic. The pay is getting worse by the day.

You are correct, but Uber is in the Courts, their lawyers, paid on average $304,000 a year, are treated with preference, by federal judges, no matter all the evidence shows Uber is at fault, they dismiss the Cases, while assigning a miscelaneous relief, but not decided and imposed by the Judge, because the Court dismissed the Case, which is a contradiction: if we accept, then there is no Court Record, it vanishes. Is like we are dealing with a tricky lawyer, but seated in the position of judge. Then the other Courts, start to use lots words instead of recognizing verifiable evidence. According to Mark MacGann, the former Uber Executive in Europe, Uber uses lobbying to influence governments, so they do not enforce their laws. We have to make the public aware, that the place we go with the evidence to denounce the problema, has become part of the problem.

Lobbying and influence peddling is the #1 reason nothing gets done in Washington anymore. It’s a disgrace that system was ever implemented in the first place. It needs to go and should have a long time ago. And I say that as someone who has a brother who has been a lobbyist for 40 years and who was well paid for what he did.

Please stop blaming immigrants. There are many immigrants that have lives as well, they are not the enemy. There are many students and part time drivers that are Citizens that do this for fun or for food money, that take up any rides. The person so valiantly protecting you and runs this excellent channel is an immigrant, so is Dara K. from Uber. So this has nothing to do with immigration, the Tesla's that you drive are also made by a first generation immigrant. Stop having this archaic view of immigrants because it serves no purpose other than to make you hateful and ultimately tank yourself singing a narrative that isn't true and poisons you from the inside.

It is illegal for uber/lyft to threaten or punish the independent contractor for rejecting a ride. You can reject ANY ride for ANY reason or for NO reason at all; you are NEVER required to explain yourself as to WHY you rejected a ride. They can dislike it all they want, but punishing you as a driver would be a HUGE and VERY ILLEGAL mistake. There are ZERO "guidelines" you need to care abt as a driver or as a rider. just follow the law and nothing else matters.

You’re funny professor. I was talking to someone in Manila about my Uber account. And out of nowhere a rooster started to crow. I told the rep how cool you have a rooster. She denied it. And denied it. When I said, I wouldn’t turn her in for the rooster. She admits she’s on a farm, working for Uber out of her home. I laughed so hard ,just amazing.

OMG 😂 seems We’ve had the same person but probably not because I too have had that identical conversation but the truth of the matter is there’s no farm they all have roosters over there. Seen it with my own ears and heard it with my own eyes. Years ago I worked for AT&T Uverse and part of our call center was over there and they sent people over here (USA) for training and vice versa. They are urban areas with chickens, hens and roosters running amuck! lol

I hadnt been to the airport in months, but yesterday I decided get a trip at the aiport queue since I had just dropped off a pax. This was a busy time with surges all around the airport. In the waiting lot they kept offering horrible rides and I declined a few and got a notice that "It looks like you arent ready to accept rides. Your ride offers will be limited". Then they tell me to go to the pickup area, so I did and there they sent a few bad rides (50 miles for $30) and then they took me out of the queue for not accepting and sent me back to waiting lot at the back of the line. Uber is playing this cat and mouse game with us trying to wear us down to get us to accept any BS rides for fear of being throttled. They are coercing us into taking crap rides through coercion and intimidation by limiting our choices of trips. Seems like a they are ripe for a lawsuit from the FTC especially since they have an 80% share of the rideshare market.

My cancellation is currently 16% and there is a three reason why my cancellation is too high a A- customer with no proper name I’m not about to pick up a customer whose name is lady Blesser or a greedy monster or Mr. or Mrs. B- customer whose text messaging me within the minutes of accepting the ride complain about they’re gonna be late from work. Where am I asking how long it’s gonna take C- a customer who added a stop while the ride is still in process

I agree with you professor, drivers should be able to control if we want to accept , or cancel trips, because that’s our lives , we the drivers feel more likely like a contractor then self contractor,all drivers should protest about cancelling rides . We should have the rights to accept or canceling rides after all we are self -contractors not employees.

I had a ride in Memphis the other day. It was a 20 min pick up. The rider wrote me and said.."Really dude...and 20 pick up? Give it to someone else." I gave it to someone else. Apparently the rider was provoked because someone took the ride.

Great video. I just looked at my profile and received this bullshit and I had to wonder why? My Cancellation Rate is at 2.5% and my Acceptance Rate is 87%. I reached out to support to ask why I received this message and they sent me some canned response about the Community Guidelines. In the market I drive in (Rio Grande Valley in south Texas), Uber only shows us the duration of the trip from pickup to drop off and nothing more. From our location when we get the trip, we're not told if we have to drive 15 miles to actually pick up the passenger. If we receive a Trip Radar which is only available at the airport, we can't see the full detail of where the pickup location is or the dropoff. What's really sad is that Uber cares more about the rider's experience and not the driver's experience. You also hit the nail on the head by stating that the CEO of Uber wouldn't drive in some of the areas the driver's are sent to and the call center agents have no clue what drivers have to deal with. Most of the support agents don't even advocate for the driver and are more than ready to copy/paste bullshit to the drivers instead of actually hearing our concerns. Thank you again for this video!

Twice this week uber sent me threatening messages that if I am stopped the rider can cancel when I was at a long red light and once when I had to change the root for road closures saying if I alter the root the riders can cancel. It's obsurd!

I think they are referring to "provoke" as taking too long to get to the destination in order to keep your acceptance rate high by accepting trips you dont really intend on picking up, thus "provoking" the rider to cancel

I've had issues with them, specifically UE, sending messages about a "failure to deliver"(basically the customer saying they didn't get thier food/package if it's an Uber Connect) where I have physical proof that I had delivered to then via the GPS tracking or photo.. I have called thier call center up and have told them that they better provide proof that I didn't deliver and they better reword thier messages if it's a "blanket message" because they can and will be looking at a libel/slander lawsuit since I can prove that I did deliver to Joe Customer... Needless to say I haven't received any since. 😂😂

I used your method today Professor. I accepted a ride. Rider modified ride. I said ,I will take you to original destination,but no second stop... She eventually understood. Nice young lady. I am of the opinion that a barrel of worms has been opened. The nationwide protests were necessary and unavoidable. The goal, the minimum income, was wrongly chosen and has lured characteristically dubious politicians onto the stage. I am from the government, i am here to help. At the moment when our independence and freedom were at stake, we called for the minimum income and thus outsourced our private and business lives to politics. Politicians are like athlete's foot. Once you've got it, it's hard to get rid of.What makes matters worse is, that politicians know that good greasing is good driving. Well, the driverless cars for one thing are not allowed to go everywhere. They are limited to where they can go. Also handicap people with disabilities need a driver and if they don’t have one, they’re screwed. And you can easily disable the driverless vehicles by simply placing a cone on the hood to confuse it.

How is this driver listed as Platinum? I thought an 85% acceptance and 5% cancellation were required and the stats shown don't meet those requirements.

Uber has a "status protection" clause where once you reach diamond or platinum, if you fall back below the requirements you can keep your status for a certain period of time

In my area acceptance rate is meaningless. I have been diamond for over a year with an acceptance rate below 20% consistently.

Once you qualify you are platinum for the next quarter. If he doesn't keep his numbers up then he will lose platinum for the next quarter. Not all areas count acceptance rate. My market in San Diego don't require it.

Funny Lyft provokes the customer into canceling by sending you pre-scheduled rides that you have to be there in 10 minutes when all gps’s are showing 27 minutes away and you call are the customer calls and says are you really 27 minutes away I say yes and they cancel and Lyft has the nerve to send you the your account is flagged for canceling too many trips. I message them back by saying don’t send a pick up for 10 that’s 27 away. Then you spend 10 minutes pulled off the side of the road to fight for your $3.60 cancellation fee which at times 50% you may not get it

I think Uber needs to in my opinion, especially with trip radar. You cannot use the automatic except ride part of the app. This is happened to me on trip radar multiple times. The ride is $50 or more. I do not get it when I accept under trip radar. But yet five minutes later I get the same ride back, $176. I didn’t get it on trip radar. But it came back to me as a regular ride. $50 on trip radar. I didn’t get it, but it came back to me as a regular ride. And this is where Uber is getting themselves in trouble and blaming the driver. I got one last night. For $150. I didn’t get it under radar. But it came back to me as a regular ride. pure and simple they caused their own problems. And look for somebody else to blame.

No he does not listen to me. He knows of me and occasionally gets his attorneys to threaten me, but I laugh at them. The protests I organize certainly get his attention, especially the ones I do at the headquarters. I chip away and work on multiple fronts with multiple organizations and multiple attorneys and class action attorneys. Does he listen to me every day? No. Does he feel the impact on Uber’s financials. Yes when they have to settle big cases we organize.

Drivers who have commercial insurance and their own LLC are probably the ones who are asking passengers to cancel and to pay the driver directly. This is why I never understood why Uber or Lyft allow drivers who have their own commercial car service to be on their platforms. They don’t have to worry about getting into an accident without rideshare insurance because they have commercial insurance through their business. Uber and Lyft should expect to lose customers to private car service companies who provoke riders to cancel. I see it all the time and it hurts regular Uber and Lyft drivers that cannot afford to become a professional car service driver.

Uber and Lyft tells drivers they cannot carry guns or weapons yet we are independent contractors that means how they can tell you what can you keep in your personal vehicle you paid for if I was driving for them I would carry everyday so y’all drivers out there yall should carry even if is a gun a knife or maybe one of them telescopic batons or tasers just carry something don’t worry about their weapon policy cause as an independent contractor they cannot tell you what to carry
