You did a fine job I suppose, but the comparison is not complete until you've slammed them together to see which breaks first in order to determine the stronger of the two. Otherwise you did a fantastic job at breaking them down.

That is indeed a crucial point I seemed to have erroneously glossed over. I will need to rectify this immediately by creating a follow up video showcasing the strength test.

Thank you for the sub and checking out multiple videos. I just responded to your comment on the metalcore video, but again, it really means a lot to me to know you’re enjoying my videos. I could definitely make another tutorial style video for tones like these. The most recent Axe Fx update majorly changed the sound if the amp models I was using in the video here, so I’d need to get things dialed in again from scratch as close as possible. I have a few other videos planned in the meantime, but this will definitely be something I add to the list. Thanks for the interest and suggestion!

Excellent review. Good use of side by side graphics to explain model differences. Went back and played the music intro twice before listening to your comments. Good stuff deserving of a title for subscriber follow up. As others have commented, it is evident you put a lot of work into this review. Great comments on both models the perfection of the USA model and the fantastic value of the SE unit. Thought USA model had bolder sound which was evident in all settings .

I like the core it sounds fuller and richer but you get the alder body wood, better colours, trust rod. Something about the neck with the sticky back it feels like maybe more grip in the palm when playing, but I'd see how the satin is easier for freely moving quickly down the neck.

Interesting. I have the SE and reviewed it early on on my rather young channel. I didn’t have the USA version to compare, but stated at the time I doubted you absolutely need to buy the USA version to own a great playing, nice sounding Silver Sky. BTW, mine had no finish flaws at all, or any other kind of flaw for that matter. It played well enough out of the box I didn’t even make any adjustments until after the first couple of live shows I did with it. 👍🏼

It’s good to hear that yours had no flaws! From what I’ve been hearing, mine seems to be atypical in that regard, but thankfully the sound and playability more than made up for it in my opinion. You’re definitely correct on not needing the USA version to get a great guitar. I’m also happy to hear you confirm that its solid for live use, since I currently don’t have the opportunity to test that application myself. Btw I just checked out your channel. Pretty cool stuff! Just subscribed and i’ll be taking notes so I can try to grow and make better videos myself. Keep up the good work, and thanks for watching/sharing your thoughts!

You did a fantastic job comparing both guitars. Kudos for the hard work. :) Interestingly, your 2022 SE and 2019 USA model have neck shapes so similar that you can't feel the difference. In my experience, the 2022 USA rosewood neck shape is noticeably thicker compared to the 2022 SE (both are very comfortable to me). Maybe they modeled the 2022 SE neck after earlier USA models? Or maybe it depends on each individual guitar and how much of the neck gets sanded in the process.
@SethSilvaMusic
@SethSilvaMusic Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’m really glad you liked the video. In regards to the neck shape, I think it might be that they modeled the SE neck off the earlier USA rosewood models/the current maple board models. I can’t remember if the neck was also changed in 2020, but I remember that only the rosewood fretboard models received the change to the different profile, whereas the maple fretboard Silver Skies kept the original profile. Part of me wishes I could’ve gotten a 2020 or newer Silver Sky to throw in with these two for a three guitar comparison, but honestly this took a lot of time as is so that probably would have driven me insane lol. That said, I do REALLY like the Polar Blue Silver Sky, and that color was first introduced after the changes if I remember correctly.
@kamkormusic
@kamkormusic Жыл бұрын
@@SethSilvaMusic I've heard about the neck shape change for rosewood models too. The Polar Blue is very pretty indeed. In some photos under specific light conditions, it looks very similar to Stone Blue. I do prefer the dodgem blue that you have though. The moc sand is very cool and a unique color too. I don't see many gray guitars out there. Plus, John plays it the most. :D
@SethSilvaMusic
@SethSilvaMusic Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I really like the satin moc sand, but the metallic Silver Skies just scratch a certain itch for me, which is weird since I typically preferred a more flat, pastel finish over metallics until recently.

Earlier this year I had the Core, it really is a perfect instrument in every way, I had another strat at the time and couldn't justify keeping both. The Core came at a great deal and wanted to try it and flip it, but ended up liking it much more than expected. However, always thought that if an SE here in my country showed up at a good price, was the perfect price point for me, especially if it is as good as described on many reviews. Just got the SE this week, and damn, it really its great. It's not as premium feeling as the Core, that like USA PRS is just as perfect instrument, but the SE ir punches above its price for sure to me, feels great to play, I like actually the 8.5 radius, feel more at home with it (although the Core is so good that 7.25 also felt great there), and the sound was surprised it sounded that good. So I'm very happy with the SE and in my case don't moss the Core because the SE is good enough to scratch my itch of hving the Silver Sky experience. And damn, PRS really did an amazing job with the design of this guitar, it doesn't look like it but is so so comfortable to play. Very good PRS. And love the color of your PRS Core, enjoy it cos are amazing guitars! At some point if have the extra $$, maybe will grab the Core again, but like you the S style im good just having 1 since its not my main guitar, but its worth it to have a silver sky besides as strat as well. It brings to the tble some unique things.

I bought the Dragon Fruit version of the SE model and I'm impressed. It's a great Stratocaster without the icepick high end of the pickups. It just needs a good set up made by a good luthier. My guitar only had a switch issue and replacing it was cheap. My luthier, a well reputed one where I live said that the SE model is better. A client of his that used to have a US model sold it for a SE. My luthier wasn't a fan of the 7,25''. Having worked on a previously owned strat by Mayer he said he could understand why Mayer chose a 7,25'' radius.
@SethSilvaMusic
@SethSilvaMusic Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and sharing your insight! Sorry to hear that the switch was giving you trouble though. Fortunately, mine has been perfectly fine electronically. Aside from your switch, i’m happy to hear you’re enjoying the SE. these are definitely still my favorite strat-style guitars in the sub $1,000 price range. The radius was something I was initially worried about with the USA version, but like I mentioned, I actually really ended up liking it. I feel like a lot of luthiers don’t like the super round radii because it really requires every fret to be seated/crowned perfectly in order to prevent things from fretting out. Obviously, with PRS, being PRS and charging as much as they do, they take the time to make sure the frets are perfect from the factory, but I’m imagine once they start to wear down from play, I’ll run into a bit of trouble. The USA is a definite keeper for me though, so when the time comes, I’ll probably just refret with stainless steel and get it plek’d.

I have had both (twice). Sooo much psychological stuff going on in our heads when it come to guitars; what are you used to? what neck shape have you been playing mostly..lately? These things really weigh on one's perspective when experiencing a new guitar. For me, the SE was as sweet as it gets EXCEPT when I spent a few days with the core. Then I knew the difference: When I hold and play the core, I not only hear cleaner and more dynamic tones, I also know that I have damn near perfection in my hands. I'll keep the core this time.

Furthermore, the SE version is a great indicator of what the Indonesian factory is capable of. And, what PRS put into designing this SE model. It makes me expect more of this same high quality and thoughtful design from the Indonesian SE factory on ALL SE guitars. They are clearly capable. Great job by PRS setting up a factory overseas that can put out super high quality guitars. I was honestly wondering if I'd ever by an SE again after I heard they moved from that amazing S Korean factory. Early on, I saw some Indonesian guitars from the first run of guitars out of that new factory and I was so disappointed. There were so many QC issues. Seems like they've got it sorted for the most part right now.
@SethSilvaMusic
@SethSilvaMusic Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your thoughtful responses. I agree that the new SE factory has a lot of potential. The only issues this guitar has are minor cosmetic problems, which is a far cry from some of the import guitars of yesteryear. My thoughts on the sound are currently fairly similar to yours, especially after listening to the clips again more during editing. You really do get a “pro” sounding guitar for the money with the SE, and if you like the Silver Sky’s rendition of the strat sound, this definitely has it without breaking the bank.

@@SethSilvaMusic it stays in tune, it has a great feeling neck (which is one of my most important criteria for a good guitar...if I can't play it without struggling it's useless),it sound almost identical to the USA model...which I personal dig the sound of. The only thing I can critique is that the neck joining the body has about an .008 in. gap on each side. Doesn't seem to effect the guitar though, but seems like with C&C machines it would be something they could easily correct for a tighter fit with a small adjustment to the machine. I'm not a strat guy, but I'm keeping this one. Probably never buy one again unless one falls in my lap.

@@leeasbury7273 USA Silver Skys tend to have neck joint gaps too. My USA Silver Sky probably has a bigger or similar gap as my SE. I was a bit disappointed and worried at first. But then I thought I would have never worried about it if I didn't read guitar forums. The guitar plays and sounds amazing (both unplugged and plugged), so I guess it's only an aesthetic thing. I guess they don't pay that much attention to it. Both in the USA and the Indonesia factory.

@@kamkormusic just for shiz and giz, I just checked the neck joint on my 1994 PRS CE24 and absolutely NO GAP! That's my favorite guitar too! Anyway, I'm not worried about the gap affecting the sound of the guitar at all, just wondering why alot of us are seeing it. Since they clearly can make a tight fighting bolt on neck. Again, doesn't bother me on the SE. I might however at least call or email PRS about it if it were a USA model...if nothing more than just to here how they explain it.

@@leeasbury7273 Thanks for checking. :) I just checked mine too. the USA Silver Sky has ~0.011 inches on the treble side and ~0.005 inches on the bass side. SE has it closer to ~0.010 and 0.004 inches. I guess they try to make it tighter, but sometimes they end up with a bigger gap like in mine. I've heard that a very tight pocket can lead to finish cracks.

Very little difference. The USA is a little clearer sounding in some settings, mostly dirty. The SE is a little brighter on some settings clean. I actually ended up selling the SE recently and don’t remember the height. I matched the SE to the height of the USA model, but since making this video I actually raised the heights of the USA so I don’t really remember unfortunately. My best advice would be to raise the bridge until you’re happy with how it sounds, then set the neck/middle to be balanced. Keep in mind, your neck and middle will usually be noticeably lower than the bridge to keep things balanced output-wise.

What year/fretboard type was your Silver Sky? I may be wrong, but I think the SE is using the same neck profile as the pre-2020 Silver Sky, or the current maple fretboard Silver Sky, as PRS gave the rosewood fretboard guitars a different profile when they revamped the pickups. It’s also possible this is just a byproduct of there being some level of hand sanding involved in guitar production, and these two beck just happened to end up close to the same.

That’s really interesting. It sounds like there might be some variability in neck carves from guitar to guitar, or maybe the neck has been subtly changing from run to run with 2020 just being the first reported change. Of course, everyone’s hands are different, but I’m usually pretty sensitive to neck profile differences as well. Also I think you may have me confused with someone else. I am really interested in their new pickups, despite them being quite expensive.
