Don’t dab the sap off. High recommend leaving it alone. That sap is the natural reaction of the plant. Even tho the paper towel would be steril, I would advise not disturbing the plants natural healing process/new growth. Video is great 👍🏼 thank you for making this!

Paper towels are not sterile. They have not been sterilized in any way. Nor are they packaged in a way for a sterilized item. I used to work in the surgical field.

Thank you very much for your great informative video. I’ve been wanting to prune my my FLF for about a year now, but you have demonstrated a method that is easy to understand. Just a side note, we keep our house at 72 degrees, give or take a few, all year around and a humidity level between 40 and 45%. I see you have a pot about the same size as mine, and what I usually do for watering is stick my finger down about 2” in the soil and if it feels dry I add roughly 3 pints of water. Usually this occurs every 7 to 9 days. Thank you again for your great video and a Happy New Year.

Great video, also keep in mind that plants tend to get leggy when they want more light only growing upwards. FLF trees love the summer heat in partial shade so putting it outside might promote it to branch a bit more as well.

You mentioned in your notes that notching is another way to encourage branching. This tree would benefit from adding some notches to the stem after it is pruned. Just nick the branch above where a leaf comes out and you might prompt a new branch to develop. What do you think?

I expect a new bud soon - they come right after I give my boo a thorough drenching. I'll take it and twist it off, right? I can't wait to see it! Your big one sure is fine and lush. New subbie. The sound the leaves make when snapping off is RIGHTEOUS! I love the plant life! TY!

Ahhh I’m so sorry I wish I gave you a better view! I’ll def keep that in mind for my next videos. Thank you so much for your feed back I really appreciate it! Yes, when pinching you just snap off the bud give it a few weeks and you should start to see several new bud sites appear. The plant that I demonstrated on in this video already has three new buds forming and one new leaf is about to open. It’s amazing! I agree it hurt me so bad to snap off those beautiful leaves! So, first of all, where do you start your measurement? Mine is 7 feet tall from the bottom of the pot. Yours looks much taller than 8 feet, unless you start measuring from the top of the soil. Or are you just basing it off of an 8’ ceiling? Anywho … Now that that’s out the way, I was about to refresh my soil mix and trim about 28-30 inches off the top until I came across your video. Now, I’m wondering if I should let her acclimate to the refreshed soil before I trimming or trim before refreshing the soil. Or does it even matter? Beautiful result in the thumbnail. You may have told us in the video, but how long did it take to branch out like that? I’m gonna rewatch it though. Thanks.

It is recommended to do any pruning during an active growing season (spring/summer) I don't always follow the rules so I have personally pruned my plants during fall and have had just as much success with them things just moved a little slower. As far as the pot with no drainage I would def recommend moving it to a pot with drainage. is it possible to gently slip the plant out drill some holes in the current pot and put it back?

@SableSoSavvy
@SableSoSavvy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! It all depends on how tall you want it. I personally would let it grow I bit more than prune it so I’m not compromising any height. For example let it grow to six feet then prune it at 4 feet. That way you get another plant and have it back to 4 feet which is where it is now then have it start to branch out. Hope this helps. 💚

Hello there I’m not sure about the bottom leaves. Over time I let my bottom leaves drop off since my main goal is to shape them into a tree form. I keep them for a while to help strengthen the stem. 💚

That's a nice plant! Thanks for the instruction, I just bought a small one 6 months ago and its growing nicely. Id like it to look like yours. I'm curious as to how old your plant is?

Is it too much of a shock to the plant to first prune lower leaves individually, and then prune the top off at the same time?

Hey there! Oh no! I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your fig. Is it in a south facing window? I find that it needs be directly in front of the window if that’s not possible then you will need to supplement light. I find that watering once a week with Good dirt fertilizer (link in the description) is a good watering schedule and I always give the same amount of water each time. Hope this helps! 💚

This was very helpful. I wonder if you have any advice for drying out my soil. My fiddle leaf is touching the ceiling right now. But for the past 2 months the soil won't dry out. I haven't watered in like a month.

Hey there ✨ thanks for being here! I'm glad to hear you found this video to be helpful@ Thank You! As far as the soil drying out I would take into consideration the drainage holes def want to ensure that there are enough drainage holes and the type of soil. Also increase light and heat. You could use a soil moisture meter in between watering to make sure its dry before watering again. I hope this helps! 💚

🌿🐦Take a chopstick push down into the soil all around the plant to aerate the soil to help dry it out! The plant loves it also. Just be gentle with the roots. U can aerate many times in a month. ☘🐦

What did you use to keep it so upright? Mine is leaning over so much and I haven't found anything that works.

Hi! I had to Zip tie two garden stakes together and then I used velcro garden ties to wrap it around the plant to the stake. I hope this helps!

What do you all put on the bottom of the planter for these?
@SableSoSavvy

I don’t put anything besides a thin piece of screen to help keep the soil from seeping out firing watering. I add my soil mixture and that’s it. 💚

Can you do this anytime? Or does it need to be spring/summer? Mine needs it now and with fall coming I’m wondering if I need to wait.
@SableSoSavvy
@SableSoSavvy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you're going to do it I would get on it ASAP. I think you still have time (depending on where you live of course). It's really best to do it during an active growing season (spring/summer) however, I have done it during an off season and had great results as well just took a little longer. Hope this helps! Would love to hear how goes!
