Here's my "Rap Genius" interpretation of the lyrics based off of the events of the game. For starters, it should be said that I believe the speaker is The Boss. The game IS about her after all. "What a thrill. With darkness and silence through the night" The Boss lived and died as a soldier. As a Cobra, her emotion and title was Joy. The Boss found happiness in her work, performing wet work for the American government, to whom she was loyal beyond anything else. On a stealth mission, there is a thrill for her in the darkness and silence. "What a thrill. I'm searching and I'll melt into you." The Boss understands that this is her final mission and she will die soon. However, she still finds a thrill in battle. But, her true desires for the world are left unachieved. Her vision of a peaceful world is not coming anytime soon. So, she searches for a way to pass on her legacy. Hence the line "i'll melt into you," a way of saying that her spirit and being will join with whoever she entrusts her dream to (i.e. snake, and to a lesser extent, ocelot and EVA). "What a fear in my heart. But you're so supreme" The Boss is scared, though she never admits as much. She is scared that the world will never know the peace she wants for it. But she has faith that Snake is capable of achieving what she could not. "I give my life. Not for honor, but for you, snake eater" The Boss knows that the country she is loyal to is taking advantage of her loyalty with her final mission. While her loyalty prevents her refusal, she wants the products of her life to work towards her dream. So, she sacrifices herself not for the "honor" of dying for America, but to impart her philosophy and legacy (PHILOSOPHER'S LEGACY) unto the snake eater. (snake eater is obviously the person meant to kill her. She is a cobra, her killer is a snake eater) "In my time there'll be no one else" Boss' days are numbered. There will be no other students to carry on her will. Jack is all there is left "Crime is the way I'll fly to you, snake eater" The defection of the Boss kicks off the real plot of snake eater. The "crime" of defection leads The Boss to her final encounter with snake, the inheritor of her legacy. "I'm still in a dream snake eater" I like this line a lot. It conveys the muddled perception people have of reality. Even the real world can feel like a dream. The Boss' dream might be the American dream. She is still beholden to the American government. Or perhaps its the dream of a peaceful world. Even in her final moments she cant escape her desire for peace. Regardless, the ordeal must feel unreal to her. She gave everything she had to her country: her mind, her body, her child, and now they are taking her life. Realizing that you're going to die, that it is your duty to die, must feel dream-like. It's such a startling reality that Big Boss and Zero each try to take over the world multiple times because of it, and they weren't even the ones who died. Or, it might be a subtle meta-hint at the fact that its a video game, and is more akin to dream than reality (though I doubt it) "Someday you'll go through the rain. Someday you'll feed on a tree frog. This ordeal, the trial to survive. For the day we see new light." Operation snake eater is not just The Boss' final mission, its a test to see if Jack can really hang with the big boys. It's ultimatum she gives Jack at the end of the game "beat me or die" so that you can fight for a better world (aka the day we see new light). That final clause "for the day we see new light" carries over to the chorus of "I give my life..." The Boss gives her life for the snake eater and for the sake of the day where they see new light.

I loved all the little things you could do with controller on this intro, like change direction of the credit strings and snakes with the left analog stick, add some effects with the right stick etc. The title screen had lots of interactive elements as well.

Very excited for the MGS3 Remake :)

Just started playing the game last night, for the first time, and just got past this part and into the second mission and I'm amazed at how well the game has held up. The cutscenes are better than a lot of the cutscenes in games that have come out in recent years and the story is intriguing and fun from the get go.

Metal Gear Solid = The Best game series ever made.
