Testing out 1080p, 1440p and 4k 120hz gaming monitors with the PlayStation 5. This isn't a full review or list of the best monitors for your PS5 but rather my experiences from testing out the PS5 with some monitors I have and which ones I would recommend . I also tried to replicate 120fps vs 60fps with a frame by frame breakdown. All 3 allow 120hz gaming on your next gen PS5 but I'm looking forward to see some HDMI 2.1 monitors in the near future and hopefully get one for some more tests. Maybe more info from CES 2021? These are some recommendations that I've used.

Conflicted on what monitor to get. I've got my PS5 and my new 3070 build PC, I live in New Zealand so generally seeing a video with all the different monitors causes conflict due to the massive price differences that we have here compared to anywhere else. Most of these monitors are ranging from $600 - 1,000+

Thanks. I've gone down the rabbit hole trying to figure this all out watching many videos and yours is far and away the best. Going to go with the LG850 or BenQ2780. I didn't think the LG could really have a 1ms response time. Some independent testers say its around 5 sec, so BenQ (listed 5ms) and LG seem similar

@@user-tt1xo3bk4i I'm happy with it. It's a nice balance of being able to play 120hz supported games and not sacrifice too much with 1440p resolution. I prefer the smoothness of 120Hz over 4K for most games. I have a large 4K TV, so occasionally for story based games where I want that impressive 4K graphics experience I'll hook it up to that. At the time I was looking, monitors that did both 4K and 120Hz were way too expensive. Haven't looked recently as I'm not looking to upgrade

I got the BenQ EW3270u as I'm not playing anything fast paced anymore where 120Hz will be necessary I just wanted pure 4K visual fidelity and 60Hz with a good response time and it fills that nicely. My cousin has an IPS Panel and the glow is really bad so I stuck with this VA Monitor instead. The BenQ is great so far for the price, the HDR is pretty weak almost no different but I expected that with a monitor of this price and already did research beforehand.

Thank you for this. I was planning on getting the 27GN950-B exclusively for the PS5 since it has HDR600, 144hz, and is 4K. And I may still get this if the newer 2.1 HDMI monitors aren't any better price-wise. I only plan to use the PS5 for it's exclusive story-based games. I know Miles Morales and Demon Souls only max out at 60fps on performance mode. So I doubt 120hz will be an option for most non-FPS games.

AWSOME content, i got my ps5 today and i play mainly Call of Duty. Wich monitor do you recommend for competitive fps? Plus, although i have the ps5 i think i will play (on ps5) the ps4 version of the game because at least for what i heard so far, it doesnt accept the old controller (like scuf) on the ps5 version of the game.. I got a 1080p 27 inch AOC gaming monitor but I've been looking for a 4K monitor for my PS5 I just want the best resolution that I can get from it so this video really helped a lot I think I'm probably just going to save up for a 4k monitor and just use my regular monitor for either a TV or when I make a PC Tower I use that one

@@fu3g0100 I think it will work. what people are saying is that you can set the PS5 to 4k and it will down scale it to 1440p. which i guess it’s cool. Hopefully one day the PS5 will support 1440p at 120fps. but for now you got 1080p and 4k at 120fps. you should be good bro.

I bought the msi mag27qrf and it works with the ps5 1080p 120fps. It also has a built in console mode that takes a 4K input and downscales it to 1440p. Games on it look amazing!!!

Can’t go wrong with the MSI MAG27qrf-qd monitor. It’s the best one I’ve owned. I use it for my series x at 1440p 120hz. It also great for PS5 because it will accept the 4K signal and downsample to 1440p. Also, I realize I probably shouldn’t have made the comment because this was a PS5 specific video. Sorry I was watching a lot of monitor videos and they were all running together in my head.

@@baguette7014 I got mine from Newegg because they were in stock. It was on sale for $434. B and H photo/video had it for $419 but they were never in stock. I’ve had good experiences ordering from both places. I would have gone with Best Buy because they are local for me and I could return it easy if there was a problem, but they don’t carry it.

Appreciate for the great content thank you. What do you think about the LG 27'' 27GN880-B? It seems the upgraded version of LG 27'' 27GL850-B with ergonomic features. However I wonder if it has some disadvantages or not. Do you know something about that monitor as well?

Thanks for the feedback! I haven't personally used the 27GN880-B but the specs look like they match the 27GL850-B with the only difference being the very handy ergonomic mounting arm. I've looked high and low and the GN880--B isn't available in Canada, we only have the QN880-B which has a refresh rate of 75Hz.

A point on the LG 27GL850-B, you mention you can do 120 fps at only 1080p but it is worth noting that on my Xbox series x you can do 120 fps at 1440p when you turn adaptive sync off. At first i was worried about turning adaptive sync off in case of signs of screen tearing but when i play Cod Warzone i notice no issues at all. So i game at 120 fps at 1440p.

@@MrSonicspinner I'm not totally sure as I don't own a ps5, but I believe that the ps5 doesn't run at 1440p anyway, only 4k and 1080p, if that is the case then might as well have 1080p at 120fps on the few games that support it (warzone doesn't have an option of 120fps on ps5). But again I'm not 100% sure on that.

I play FPS 99% of the time so I got a 1080p 144hz monitor a couple of weeks ago 24”. I’m debating on wether I should return it for something like the 1440p monitor that you suggested. But I’m worried 1080p at 27” will be too blurry. It would be nice to already have it if Sony comes out with an update but I’m not holding my breath for that. The HDMI 2.1 monitors or waaaaaaaay too expensive. The first one that announced price is the Acer. $900! This honestly makes me want to get an Xbox. Lol. Too bad all my friends are on PlayStation.

lol I feel your pain. I'd probably stick with your 1080p 144hz monitor @ 24" for now and wait to see if the PS5 will eventually support 1440p. 24"/25" is the sweet spot for 1080p gaming imo.

@@yousif3921 depends on what you're used to like in terms of resolution. For me when I switch over to the 120hz mode in a game then yeah u can notice the resolution drop but u quickly get used to it. I still recommend the monitor tho even aftter having it for 9 months now. However if u do not game on PS5 and you're going for say and Xbox than i would not recommend this monitor. If u wanna know why , lemme know and I'll explain.

Lg 32gk650f is 1440p 144hz that accepts the ps5 4k output. I use it sometimes. It gets down to 299 on sale but hovers in the 360-399 when not on sale. Its freesync also works with my nvidia 1080ti so the GSync compatibility is a plus.

As i know the Gigabyte g27f has also a down-scaling feature.. what exactly does it mean? Can i play Warzone on 1440p/120hz even tho the ps5 dont have 1440p?

So the budget lg monitor also has a downscaler built in? And is the same as the middle one you shown just no type c ports?

Hey . I've got a question. I've got the ASUS VG27AQ monitor (144hz) But somehow I can't seem to get 120fps. As far as I know I've got the settings right on the ps5. Or what do I have to do to downscale it? Got any advice for me? Thanks

Bro i have a qeustion i have the asus swift it goes to 144 hz default 180 overclocked and when i play a game called Rainbow six siege it says that im on 132 fps when i play it but when i check my monitor it says 60 fps am i actually playing 60 or am i playing 120 fps and is the ps5 output only 60 is it showing me because of that

I have an LG ul550 for ps5 gaming planning to sell it for the LG gp850 should i go through with it? I bought the 550 because it was on sale but i want the better monitor for ps5 gaming rn. Btw awesome vids! subscribed!

Hey I notice my monitor is one of the ones with built in downscaler but i dont know how to set it up. I have the Asus VG27WQ1B anyone that knows how to please help. Right now I can only do 1080p hdr or 2160p no hdr since I dnt know how to set it up.

Do you know if LGs more recent monitors downscale 4k to 2k at 120hz? I'm looking at the LG 32GN600-B

I got the LG 27GP950-B that has HDMI 2.1 and while it's great to play games at 120hz 4k with games that allow it, not many do right now so I might return it. Not worth it for me 100% right now. Also, that RGB when turning on the monitor is sooooo damn annoying.
