PS5 Performance Mode Vs Resolution Mode Explained - Best PS5 Graphics Settings

The best way to get the highest graphics is to turn on the PS5 Performance Mode settings. This lets your PS5 use as much power as possible that the game will allow with your TV. But if you're more about graphics, then Resolution Mode might be the better option to go with. We'll go over both settings here.
To access Game Performance settings, you go to Settings, Saved Data, and Game/App Settings, Game Presets to access the settings. You'll see the option of Performance Moe or Resolution Mode and, by default, is set to go by the Game's default settings.
Performance Mode is for higher frame rates such as 60fps or 120fps. The system and game will lower the game's image quality if needed to keep the higher framerates when playing.
Resolution Mode is for the higher graphics quality such as 4K or even 8K gaming. This will lower the framerates if needed down to 30fps or possibly lower to retain image quality.
The first thing you need to do is see what your TV supports by going to Settings, Screen & Video, then Video Output Information. This will tell you exactly what you're TV can support.
Both of these modes need the game to support it to take advantage of these settings. In Spiderman Miles Morales, you'll see options for Fidelity vs. Performance. Fidelity is the same as Resolution in this case.
NOTE* You can still get 1440p and 1080p at 120fps with HDMI 2.0.

I do want to point out that 120fps for 1080p and 1440p can work on HDMI 2.0 and doesn't need HDMI 2.1. Meant to add this comment awhile ago but forgot sorry.

4K 60hz definitely. Incredibly crisp beautiful visuals with a nice frame rate. Also with the addition of being able to have ray tracing on certain games.

They like to drag on for 8 mins or more to make as many ads as possible to generate revenue. When its less then 8 mins you only get the intro and outro if people make it to the end. Many people dont know this, everyone can make such explanations in 2-4 mins but its the only way how they gain the views. So they do those clickbait videos with the huge arrows and text with 10 mins for to explain something. Then there are few others who wont care and get to the point because thats what matters.

So I've been confused about this, so if I want to do balanced mode in horizon forbidden west do I need to switch to performance or resolution cause I think its 40 fps for balanced mode

I like this, straight to the point. I like performance mode better than fidelity mode. I guess I’ll talk about Spider-Man since that’s the main game to kick off the ps5. I find it hard to tell the difference between both modes as far as graphics. I just like how smooth the performance mode is, I have to watch videos like digital foundry to actually see a difference but even with reflections I really don’t notice a difference but that’s just me. I just subbed

As a long time console player, having these new video customizations has been exciting yet overwhelming. I just started Immortals: Fenyx Rising, which offers both modes, and I think I’ve switched back and forth a dozen times because I can’t decide which I prefer!

Exactly, im like i would of been happier if they didnt have this new setting. Just give me the same setting that all other consoles have always used. This is just actually a problem now because they added this setting. Like the console should by default always play the game in the best setting as possible without you having to now manually force you to pick one way over the other. I mean i thought this was next gen. Why couldnt they just add the option for both at the same time. Both the best graphics and performance. If you cant do that then dont bother me. Give me a PS6 then that does both then for me and not have me have to pick. Because what this setting really is saying is that you cant have the best of both worlds. And that makes the console look completely weak now. When this setting was not an option on all previous consoles, you felt like your console was always giving you its 100% best. Now with this option you know your not getting the 100% best

For my opinion:::- when you play online multiplayer game turn on performance mode:::: And for offline story mode game turn on resolution mod 😁 When we play Online games we need fps But offline story games we need high resolution hd graphics

For LG CX you can choose vivid-but have a delay in game response - and have 4k with smooth hz. But, for a good response go game mode with "performance mode" over quality mode.

I started playing miles morales at Performance RT and I think it just gives you best of both worlds, that sweet smoothness + Ray tracing at the cost of a bit fewer pedestrians.

my TV is a roku TCL HDR 4K 2018 model, the light is dimming nowadays because i run it 8 hours a day but sitting in front of it still looks good, its just if you sit above it a bit the light is dimmer.

Correct. Default is different depending on the game. For example Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart defaults to resolution mode. God of War Ragnarok on the other hand defaults to performance mode

Is there a setting which allows only one specific game to run at performance mode . For example I want to run FIFA 21 at performance mode while all my others games I want to play at Resolution Mode. It’s a bit inconvenient to always go and change presets to performance before playing fifa 21 and then shutting down the performance mode after I’m done playing Fifa 21

I am gonna do resolution mode to take advantage of my TV. I asked for a 4K TV for Christmas last year just to get ready for my own PS5 when they are easier to find and am enjoying my 4K Blu-Rays on Xbox One S and even my Blu-Rays and PS4 games from my Slim model looks nice upscaled, but I get a 4K TV to take maximum advantage of it with 4K media like games and movies and upscaling normal 1080p Blu-Rays and 1080p games is only taking part of the advantage. I am not picky whenever a game is 30 FPS or 60 FPS anyway. But basically if smoothness is what's the most important to you then Performance/FPS mode or if you are a person who wants a prettier game or have the game at Full 4K then Resolution and raytracing mode.

Yes both PS5 versions support 4K 60p and higher framerates. It really depends on what you want. IF you want the faster FPS then performance mode is the way to go. That seems to be what most who play those style of games choose.

Fps for fps. First person shooters are all about frame rate. Really any competitive game, frame rate is more advantageous.

I have mine set as Game default, playing on a Samsung Q7FN. I switched it between performance and resolution while playing destiny 2 and didint notice a difference at all. So I’m leaving it on game default

I would go to the doctor first, and make sure it's ok for you to stare at video game pixels. If everything is fine, go buy a playstation 4 base model, not the pro (as they both play good), because the pro is likely to give you the same problem. Don't just have the PS 5 because others do, enjoy your gaming on a console that's right for you. And there is nothing wrong with the PS4, it's only right before the 5.

Am I the only one who prefers resolution mode. I’ve played performance mode, but I don’t see any difference between 60 and 30 FPS. My LG TV is capable of output 4K at 60 FPS. I’ve had the PS5 for over a month now and I still prefer resolution mode.
