We should always thank God for His blessings, including specific answers to our prayers. It’s so important to have a thankful spirit, to express gratitude to God for His daily mercies, blessings, and answers to prayer. In 2015, I kept a Blessings Vase. It is something like 16 inches tall, made of glass, with some flowers and such painted on it. In it, I put small slips of paper on which I had written people, things, and circumstances of blessing. New Year’s Eve, I emptied the vase. It was so sweet to see my pile of blessings from the year. I sat down and began reading them. By the time I’d gotten to the third slip, I was bawling, and I cried all the way through. I was overwhelmed by how sweet and attentive the Lord had been to me throughout the year. I thanked Him over and over, and then I counted the slips. There were 296. There should have been at least 365, because God’s mercies are new every morning. I’ve begun again, with my Blessings Vase, for 2016. Blessings big and small, the good Lord brings them all. To say otherwise is to take credit, and I will not steal glory from my precious Heavenly Father. Thanks for the teaching, Dr. G.

This is one of the psalms that I have found it difficult to pin down and still find different interpretations and perspectives. However, as you join and relate it to Psalm 20 it begins to make more sense to me. Bless your heart brother!

We should always thank God for His blessings, including specific answers to our prayers. It is easy to forget to thank and praise God for His blessings when we don’t have a grateful heart or remember that all we do, all we have, is a direct result of God’s love and favor. While you may work on the job, earn the money, it is God that gives you the ability to do so. Remembering God in the day-to-day things requires being intentional in looking for, and seeing God’s hand in every area of our lives. Human beings are selfish and self-centered by nature, and the world perpetuates this lifestyle. It’s going to take time in God’s Presence and in His Word to become intentional about thanking Him. It’s going to take remembering not to take anything for granted, waking up, moving, speaking, hearing, seeing - everything. Although it may seem like it, we do none f these things in our own power. Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”(I Thessalonians 5:18 HCSB) When we cultivate a heart of thanksgiving giving thanks for everything will become natural. I have a section in my journal I write at the end of my reflections, meditating on Scripture called, "Provision, Blessings, and Favor!" It's where I write about God's hand in areas of my life so I can reference them to encourage me when I feel challenged. I even write them in a different color ink so they jump off of the page so to speak! Love looking back and being strengthened to move forward. A thankful heart is a blessed heart, a strong heart. Be Encouraged!
