To the people who are so surprised how he can speak english: He went to Boston University and Berklee College of Music before. He didn't finish or got a diploma but he did spend time in school here. It was a while ago so when Gangnam Style took off I'm sure his English was a little rusty as he didnt need to use english as much during that time. So I think his English just came back to him since he's working with people from the states now..

So now it's 2019, and Psy has established his own label in S.Korea called "P-Nation." The first artist he signed is Jessi(she has a song out called 'Gucci' if you want to go check her out.) Jessi has a reputation in Korea for being a bit of a controversial celebrity because she refuses to be anything other than her authentic self and always speaks her mind. As soon as word got out that Jessi's contract was up with her previous management company, Psy called her up and signed her on the spot. The next two artists to sign with P-Nation were HyunA and E'Dawn. The story behind these two is very sad. Both artists were formerly signed with a company called CUBE Entertainment. HyunA is basically a legend in the K-Pop industry, with a career that started with JYP Entertainment back in 2006, & after a short hiatus in July '07, continued with a fresh contract under CUBE in 2008. E'Dawn was the main rapper in a boy group under the same label called "Pentagon," which debuted in October 2016. HyunA, E'Dawn, & another member of Pentagon named Hui formed a co-ed side project called "Triple H" in May 2017. During the promotions of Triple H, HyunA & E'Dawn became...close.(Side note: all K-Pop artists sign contracts when they first debut stating that they are forbidden from any romantic relationships for at least the first 2 years of their career. It sounds ridiculous, I know, but the idea is to preserve the chaste and innocent image of the idols, so as to be role models for their younger fans, & to maintain the boyfriend/girlfriend fantasy for their older fans.) On August 2nd 2018, suggestive photos were released to the press of HyunA & E'Dawn. CUBE denied rumors that they were dating, but then later that same day HyunA & E'Dawn held an interview admitting they had been dating for 2 years, since May 2016. CUBE Entertainment terminated both of their contracts by October 2018. Both of their careers were destroyed because they fell in love with each other. BUT THEN....only 3 months later, on January 27th, 2019, Psy posted a picture on his Instagram of HyunA & E'Dawn sitting next to each other in his office, signing a new contract. Psy is out here saving the K-Pop industry, guys. Show him love. He deserves it.

Psy graduated from college in the US, and his parents are very wealthy. That's why he speaks English fluently, despite his older age. Back in those days, 30 yrs ago, not too many Koreans who didn't immigrate to the US spoke English. The internet wasn't available.

It's kind of because of the way the Korean language works. Many Koreans can learn English with minimal accent because they use syllabic blocks to write sounds, so it's not that difficult for them to be explained exactly how to pronounce a word in English. The only issues Koreans typically have are with R/L and P/F/B and Z/J because those sounds aren't really distinct sounds in Korean (some of them kind of are, but they're all so close that it can become confusing to a native Korean speaker when learning English, and likewise to a native English speaker when learning Korean.) Not that you asked all of that, but I often see people commenting on how PSY and other Koreans don't have much of a pronounced/exaggerated accent in English and this is why. Granted, some Koreans (especially if they're not very fluent in English) still have pretty thick accents, but for the most part, you're right, they tend to not have jarring accents in English at all.

English is taught to Korean students from a young age, though admittedly most only keep a semi-functioning knowledge of it. Psy also spent some time studying in the states. Not that Psy is archetypal K-Pop, but many music groups in Korea have at least one member who's fluent in English. Though this only makes it more embarrassing when producers throw shoddy English into their songs.
