Why does the Roy Family from Succession seem so dysfunctional? Dr. Bender looks at mental health in the Waystar Royco conglomerate founder, Logan Roy, his children, and their relationships.

After rewatching the series it dawned on me that Logan is more of a cult leader than a businessman, always looking to exploit and divide those beneath him. I think this was very visible in "boar on the floor" contest, where he threatened to kick somebody out of the business/cult. It honestly reminded me of a documentary I saw about scientology.

loved this analysis, it was all so interesting! one thing i find interesting about connor is that he seems a bit more openly affectionate than the younger ones, which i always put down to him having a different mother, possibly one who was more affectionate than caroline. it's also hinted that his mother ended up being institutionalised so not only does he has a family history of mental illness but that kind of event would have been quite traumatising for him.

i think another reason why connor is more emotionally adapt than the others is because he's old enough to remember a time when the Roy's weren't "The Roy's" and wasn't as coddled as the others were. he didnt grow up with the same financial luxuries the other siblings did

I would love a breakdown of the characters in Hannibal. I read this essay on horror stories and they talk about Hannibal as an explanation of life after a traumatic event and living in a normal world and that's so interesting to me.

I find your analyses so fascinating, and often you mention how sensitive and intuitive children are in seeking care and love from their parents and finding out a way to get that love. I am curious, what happens in the event of a child growing up without a parent to form them? Do they attach to someone else or become self sufficient?

Ive always been intrigued by psychology! I was in a car accident recently that has only left me with 1 limb for 3 months, im still in the hospital and trying to cope with not being able to do most of what i did before, im very angry at the man for pulling out infront of me, im embarrassed that incant even wipe my own ass, for 2 weeks i couldn't pee on my own & I've been getting told im lucky but its hard to feel that way given my circumstances. I feel like i align more with greif because i feel like my limbs have been taken from me but ive been trying to use humor to cope with most of problems. If you have any tips or words of wisdom for me id be grateful & id like recommend the last of us for another show breakdown, mainly for the coping of greif and loss. I love your videos & i hope you keep up the great work, i subbed so i look forward to all the videos yet to come!

Dr Bender, would love to see you react to some funny sketch videos. You don't have to analyse or suggest solutions if you don't have the time. Some Ryan George videos: 1. Brains are jerks at 3 AM 2. When you're too tired to sleep 3. If Adulthood had a job orientation day 4. Checking your phone as soon as you wake up 5. Why December is always exhausting 6. If a ghost possessed someone in 2020 7. Unintentionally aggressive road rage

Because I suffer from several mental illnesses, when I watch the show I found some problematic situations. This is hands down, my favorite tv show ever, but I can say I absolutely understand Kendall, so I love him. When I watched the show I’ve remembered you dr. Bender , I remembered that I’ve watched you on KZfaq and you was the only psychiatrist that explain very well mental illnesses. Immediately opened KZfaq to search for you and write to make a video about Succession and in very happy to find out that you already have one. Thank you!

You do an AMAZING job explaining characters' mental issues in films/shows. I was wondering if you could analyze the characters from Breaking Bad. Such as Walter White, Gus Fring, and Jesse Pinkman? Really amazing show. Better Call Saul is a good one (in the same universe as Breaking bad). Characters also like Gus Fring, Saul Goodman, and Kim Wexler. Also, I'm curious to see you analyze/hear thoughts on Autism and how its portrayed in media versus then & now, Such as Good Doctor, Atypical, Power Rangers (2017), MUSIC, Abed from Community, Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, or I am Sam. Also, your opinions on non-autistic actors portraying them versus having autistic people play them.

Waiting for the next videos... ooooo I have an idea for some videos, you should look into some anime, I think Japanese anime portrayal of mental health issues and the development of them is really well done, I am very interested to hear your thoughts on them: Some anime movie recommendations: 1. A Silent Voice (2016) (2 hours 9 minutes) (Drama/Romance) 2. The Garden of Words (2013) (46 minutes) (Romance/ Drama) 3. Orange (2016) (1 hour 3 minutes) (Drama) 4. Perfect Blue (1997) (1 hour 20 minutes) (Thriller/Mystery) P.S. not sure if you read these comments but I am a big fan of how you format your videos and talk about mental health, I myself have struggled with mental health issues all my life, so it is comforting to hear someone understanding them or willing to. Also refreshing to hear instead of viewing characters as one-sided as "bad" or "good" you actually look into them. Hope you check out these movies, I am sure you'll have lots to say.

Thank you, Sir! I wonder though, as this is fiction, how realistic or artificial is the construction of these characters? No one's stopping anybody from writing these characters like that, but are they consistent individually and as an ensemble that exists in the real world? What are some good qualities that they have? The show overly seems to portrait questionable behaviour, as does this video essay focus on it.

Dr. Bender, I am excited for your channel, but I think you need a lavalier microphone (Or another type of microphone) to better pick up your voice. Either that or there is an issue with the sound mixing? You sound low compared to the movie clips used in this video and lower compared to your GQ videos. Wishing you a ton of success! :)

I enjoyed this analysis, but am puzzled by the description of Roman as someone who has lots of "sexual escapades" that don't deepen. Roman doesn't have ANY sexual relationships. In fact, he's likely a virgin. What Roman has is incompetent attempts at sexual relationships that fail before they can begin because he can't respond normally to normal interactions.
