I love how Mantis says Snake is suited to this 'stealth mission' when it is evident everyone seems to know exactly who Snake is, what he's doing there and where he is going. In fact the only person who doesn't know what is going on is Snake. Of course this is indeed Foxhound's plan, but Snake is a bit dim clearly since he takes forever to seriously suspect much is awry lol

All I can remember is that in order to beat him you had to switch your controller to the player 2 port so he couldn't predict what move you would make...

When this released and got to this part I was legitimately impressed/terrified. It didn't take long to catch on but man what a great moment in gaming. Years later when the remake came out on Gamecube hearing mantis say I like Zelda was also a lot of fun.

I found a dump of Audio Samples from this game, and here are some note worthy finds. "So you like Vandal Hearts" was recorded, they just forgot to make it play at the right time. "You like Action Games!" was recorded, but unused. Strangely, this actually was re-recorded for Twin Snakes and used properly. "You like Adventure Games" was recorded, but unused. "You like Arcade Games" was recorded, but unused. "You like fighting games, don't you" was recorded but unused. Kensei: Sacred Fist is the only Konami fighting game I know on the PS1. "You like to play sports games!" was recorded, but is unused. Maybe This is where those ISS Soccer Rumors came from. Mantis also has two lines judging you for your inability to avoid traps, but this goes unused since it isn't possible to trigger them because you can't get negative judgement on traps without also being poorly judged on your death rate. "But you are careless around Traps" - Probably High Alerts, Low Deaths, but High Traps. "However Traps are you weak point" - Probably Low Alerts and Deaths, but high traps.

This game gave me such a unique feeling playing it. The white multi disc, dialogue, a haunting atmosphere at times, like how quiet it was after boss fight with raven or sniper wolf. The Easter egg ghost images in photographs. Immense story

All three conditions being high and low should've had Psycho Mantis comment more. "With your skills...you may yet prove to be a challenge." "With how ineffectual you are, I am amazed you've even made it this far.

It's one of the most iconic cut scenes in the MGS series and honestly, one of my favorite boss fights from the series also. Having to swap controller ports, use thermal vision, hide from telekinesised objects, and flashbang Meryl before she shoots Snake or herself... all while Mantis levitates around the room with that perfectly weird soundtrack.

It would be funny if there was a line for never saving, like “You haven’t saved at all, you must be very confident in yourself.”

I remember hearing Psycho Mantis having a line for enjoying Super Smash Bros. Melee... Edit: This is the original version's lines. The 2004 remake was on GameCube. Which explains the line referencing Melee.

What is hilarious for me is the first time I played MGS1 I didn’t know about the controller port swapping trick, so I beat Psycho Mantis while he could read my mind.. it took like 1/2 hours to beat him dodging my bullets constantly but it IS possible to do, very time consuming and hard though. He became a cakewalk for me after that when I found out changing the port makes him piss easy lol Man I never knew so many voice lines existed, I NEVER heard that kicks your tires line before and I beat this game a lot as a kid. 2:30 I’m pretty sure that’s the combination and voice lines I used to get a lot as a kid. I remember hearing those lines every time I played the game. I heard Azure Dreams and Castlevania lines a lot, never heard the SUIKODEN line because I never played it.
