After being dropped off at Bullworth Academy, Jimmy Hopkins meets the school's principal, Dr.Thaddeus Crabblesnitch who urges him to "keep his nose clean". He soon befriends senior Gary Smith and freshman Peter "Petey" Kowalski and begins working with them to try and assert their dominance over Bullworth's various "cliques": the Bullies, Nerds, Preppies, Greasers, and Jocks.
However, an increasingly paranoid Gary eventually betrays Jimmy and pits him against Russell Northrop, the Bullies' leader, in an underground fight. Jimmy defeats Russell and forces him to stop picking on his fellow students, earning the Bullies' respect.

Fun fact: when this game was originally released, Jack Thompson fearmongered against it as "GTA in a school" (alleging that it was a school shooting simulator) in a failed attempt to get the game banned. Jack Thompson was disbarred from being an attorney several years later for his constant baseless ambulance-chasing regarding violence in video games.

An interesting moment that I'm surprised Dr. Turner did not bring up was during the final confrontation with Jimmy and Gary, when Jimmy says "I never did anything to you." Gary's reply is "You would have if I had given you the chance." That's a very insightful look at Gary's perception of the world and his relationships with other people.

That and many other scenes is what make Gary such a goated villain. Even tho nothing about his backstory is shown, you learn so much about him by just paying attention to his words. Plus, someone like him really makes sense. The town’s a shit hole, to say lightly, so it very much would create a monster like that. I mean hell, their main solution to mental illness is throwing people in the asylum. Nobody is obviously getting real help. So a sociopath like Gary would just get more and more unhinged.

The only problem is that adults are, for some reason, ABSOLUTELY F$+KING CLUELESS. They punish both the victim and bully, if even the bully, meaning that they threaten to risk your future if someone stands up for themselves. So, it's either stand up for yourself and risk your GPA and, by proxy, future, or continue to suffer under a bully and have your mental health continually deteriorate as a result.

I think I avoided bullying by not reacting much until they really annoyed me and then I’d walk towards them and they’d chicken out.

As a Brit. Bully is very similar to our "education system". I was the protagonist of bully in primary school up until year 6. Transferred schools 6 times between 4 schools. Playing Bully in years 7-9 was a weird experience as it felt personal at times. Nostalgic too, as I played it as a toddler and 6yo. Sympathy for Jimmy is what I learned. The way the school keeps him almost like a prisoner, shitty food and sleeping in there reminded me of the way the schools treated me as a kid, before my diagnosis which made everything make sense. Almost made everything I did seem like it was right. Of course now, I'm more tame but I get shat on every time I lose it in front of 25 kids. Every time it happens my mental health goes so more lower. I have a tendency to rant when I'm writing, and then regret whatever I just sent. So....

I was on the fence about a psychologist of all things and then remembered: this is an old school rockstar game, the characters have hella good depth and personality, and the main antagonist in this game is hella interesting to me. Good pick!

Considering that the first game was already made for Rockstar to rack up enough money to pay for the legal actions of GTA-SA and that the current Rockstar simply stopped giving a damn about everything, sadly i'd say the chances of a new Bully are veeeeery slim.

I’m sad they didn’t bring up Gary’s explanation for why he did all this “because I can! Because tormenting and hurting others makes me feel great” the kid is just actually a monster. He starts a riot at the school and turns it into “Lord of the Flies meets Dark Knight Rising” for no better reason than because he wanted to.

I live in Turkey and when a kid bullies another, if they young parents would take them out together to eat food and go to cinema and try to make them friends and most of the time it works. But if they are older the one gets bullied calls him friends and beat the bully after the school. Oc our bullies isn't like the one at the America, but evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling makes no difference.

My all-boys high school was horrible. The boys there makes other students and even most of the staff feel miserable. And they made some of the nicest teachers have anger issues. They have a very primitive ape-like mentality, and I don't say that lightly.
