But in Psychonauts, Raz is inside his own mind (it's mixed up with Oleander's, but it's still his mind), the power from his father allows him to re-exert some control over his own mind to make himself stronger to defeat the Two-Headed Dad Monster. Simularly, when Raz fights Maligula, Nona gives him some of her power over her own mind, so that he can help her seal away her worse self.

All she wanted to do was for him to grow a conscience and confess he stole her work by making him feel guilt but it happened just like with Raz and the ideas avalanched on top of eachother in a chain reaction until it broke his psyche. Credit where credit's due, Raz was way more careful than her, otherwise she would've gone completely crazy too

@@thehermit8618 yeah, Raz only made one connection (risk=money) which, paired with her stress about the finnancial situation of the Motherlobe, caused it to snowball into an impulsive gambling addiction. With Dr. Puntz she altered about 4 or 5 connections at the same time, which overloaded the man's psyche.

I mean it's even justifiable, if you worked for hours on something jsut for someone the swoop in and take all the credit, you would probably go to high lengths to make your work pay off

I wasn't paying much attention, but doesn't using Telekinesis to throw the Bad Idea mines at her does a lot of damage to her? When I did this it ended the phase before I even cleared the Bad Ideas out. Also that last bit reminded me of the time where Raz was using his father's mind to beat up the first game's final boss.

Probably not, the only reason Maligula is so dangerous is because she was growing in power when she was dormant and because of the whole "Us Psychic 7 tried opening every door in our minds and that made us vulnerable" thing Ford was talking about during the Mailroom Mind level. That, fighting for her country, and in turn with the fact that she had killed her sister just completely made her bonkers. I'm still kinda confused how the whole primal "fight or flight," fear of water, and Astralathe work into all this, but I'm sure that didn't help. What I'm saying, is that our next villain is going to need to be *really* messed up to have something like this happen again.

There's a lot of moments in this game that are really stomach churning. Loboto's mind, goats vomiting, the nose hairs in Psi King Sensorium, the germs in strike city, you talk to a sentient JAR OF URINE at one point. And let's not forget about the Meat Circus in the first game. It's practically a staple of the games at this point

For me, it just looks like it takes a really, really, REALLY long time...

Alright, I don't think the fight is that hard, because all it really requires is you to keep calm as you find ingredients. Yeah it's a little annoying to have to go plucking through the globs until you find one, but there's an upgrade to Telekinesis that'll make grabbing stuck objects much quicker. And yes, you can leave the mind at this point to go grinding for this upgrade, reentering Compton's mind will have you start the boss right away. The gimmick of this level, and by extension this boss, is inciting stress. You're forced to play a time management game WHILE under the pressure of a time limit, WHILE dodging obstacles. There's a reason you get moments of respite between rounds. The levels of Psychonauts are people's minds, and as such, everything in the level,, from how it plays to what it looks like is linked back to the current state of the person you're in. In the case of Compton Boole, the element of stress is to represent his implied anxiety. He's a stuttering, nervous man, constantly on edge ever since the loss of his friend. So it only makes sense that the level is gonna reflect that. I feel like the majority of the level hinges off of whether or not you panic. In truth, the cooking part can be done at your own pace, you just miss out on collectibles you'll get anyways. So the game feigns pressure in order to make you feel stressed, which is exactly what Compton feels, as he's putting himself in so much stress when it's all I'm his head. Likewise, the boss is the same case. I too had to rematch this boss A LOT(one admittedly because I accidentally exited the level) but after 4 or 5 times I realized why it was so difficult; I was panicking non stop. I was frantically grabbing ingredients left and right, reflexively chucking them away until I realized I threw the correct one away. When the goats started shooting streams of vomit, I scrambled all over the arena, trying to stay airborne to avoid getting damaged, and in the second and third phases, I did not know how to handle the appliances and jumped off the ledge trying to get away a bunch of times. After that though, I began to start plucking the ingredients more slowly, finding the right one and then MAKING SURE it was the right one before throwing it in. I realized that the goat vomit on the floor is much easier to deal with as using levitation will clean it up, giving myself more breathing room. And to make things easier, I realized that the garbage they puke out can be used as cover or platforms. The appliances weren't actually very hard to deal with at all, just had to watch what they were doing and where they were attacking instead of running around in circles. All these things that made the fight so difficult turned out to be my own fault. The boss WANTS you to panic, as panicking makes the fight more difficult than it needs to be, but once you take a moment to understand how to deal with various attacks, it boils down to just basic dodging. All this again reflects Compton's mental state. The answer is to simply calm down, and then go from there. It felt SO satisfying to breeze through the boss with ease and smash those plates against the goat's puppet faces, after I figured out how generally easy the fight was. And because of that, and how much I personally comment with these mental problems, it is my favorite fight in the game. As for how gross it is, come on, it's Psychonauts. You go into these games expecting gross stuff
