Love the reaction but one thing I may add is that Mac millers lyrics were ideas. Like what a lyric meant to him, meant something completely else to someone else. He wanted the listener to listen to what he had to say and use it in accordance with their life. His lyrics don’t just mean one single thing. Always up for interpretation of the listener. That’s why I’ve always loved Mac. RIP miss you everyday

This song and music video (especially) always leaves me feeling melancholic because I was a fan of his from the very beginning and knowing that he’s not around anymore hurts. I connected with him a lot personally. And this was released posthumously so it feels like he’s talking to us from the other side. And yes, when he says “there’s a whole lot more for me waiting on the other side” he’s talking about death. The dog in the car was his dog that died before he died I’m pretty sure. That ending where he walks off into the white light is even more sad because it’s like his soul being claimed from death. He had a really infectious smile and good heart. Super down to earth and chill guy. Insanely talented songwriter, singer/rapper, producer, and multi instrumentalist. Struggled heavily with drug addiction and depression associated with it. He started his career with his mixtape KIDS which he made while he was graduating high school. His musical journey and evolution of growth is mind boggling. He really went from a “frat boy rapper” to this. I love all of his music but he was definitely hitting new heights with his last album “Swimming” and posthumous album “Circles”. He released swimming in august 2018, died in September 2018, and circles was released January 2020 by his label and family. They did a great job honoring his legacy and they still do. RIP Mac Miller. Thanks for everything

I feel the same phoebe, i didn't have the luck to know mac and his music until he passed away, but this whole album, the vibes it gives, makes you really wish he was still here with us, so i can't imagine what it must feels like to an early fan of his. Every footage of him, or song or whatever where he shows his feelings and his most human side makes me think he didn't deserve what happened to him, but still manages to make me feel good in a way, anyways rest in peace 🙏🏾

Mac Miller grew up in Pittsburgh and was known as “Easy mac with the cheesy raps” when he was about 16-17 and as he kept growing up you can hear his music change into more meaningful and thought provoking as he battles with mental illness and falling in and out of love. He talks about his battle with drugs which is ultimately what killed him from an overdose in 2018. Personally, Mac’s album “Swimming” which was released my Freshman year of high school saved my life. I was suicidal and would listen to that album on repeat all day. If it wasn’t released I don’t think I’d still be alive. Mac Miller is one of the most uplifting rappers ever.

Mac Miller suffered from depression and drug addiction throughout his adult life. He has a song from a very early mixtape called “Poppy” detailing his anguish of losing his grandfather who he felt closest to. I always took the lines about the other side and flying to be references to his eventual death due to his drug addiction which he often wrestled with. A good example of him wrestling with these concerns is the two part song Perfect Circle / Godspeed. Perfect circle is a more brag rap at first but starts to get dark as Mac recounts his drug and alcoholic tendencies and his relationship issues, then Godspeed opens with a voicemail from his older brother wishing him a happy holiday, and from there Mac raps about needing to sober up before he dies and details his use of cocaine and pain pills. The videos are fantastic and the insight of a therapist is really interesting.

Thank you for this reaction Tom. I’m not sure if you got context from other comments but Mac Miller unfortunately passed away from an overdose. This was the first single released from his posthumous album after he passed. I remember sitting in my room when it came out with the video and crying a bit because it was so surreal. The lyrics “there’s a whole lot waiting for me on the other side” hit me so hard because it was like he knew it was coming when he wrote this song. It was the perfect first song to release after the tragedy for me. Especially with the last part of him having fun and smiling in the studio. Thank you again for the videos, love your reactions!

What I love about his music is that it’s always up for interpretation. I see it as both sobriety..like the other side of the addiction and mental well-being…but I’ve also listened to it like fear of death, or ending something to start something else…or actual death..he was a pretty spiritual person…so I think it could also be even when it’s over it’s not actually over and that’s really helpful when you live in fear or anxiety/depression.

This Song made me quit smoking!! With the lyrics "why I got to build some beautiful fortune, to go set it on fire" Mac miller accidentally overdosed. He had addiction problems. He managed to get clean, but still struggled. He was super humble. Wish I would have gotten to meet him. I LOVE YOU MAC!!

I love that I found this channel it’s exactly what I needed thank you. A little context on the song the artist Mac Miller was a famous hip-hop artist. Prior to the song coming out he passed away from a drug overdose he was suffering from a lot of depression anxiety. So when this song came out after his death and the album the song is on a lot of people took the song as a final goodbye or him explaining his feelings as to what led up to his final moments on earth. But I love how you broke it down and explain each individual lyric and gave your all your own interpretation.

"Why can't it just be easy, why does everybody need me to stay" is something I've thought quite literally when having actively suicidal episodes. This whole song is a very good description of moderate-severe depression and where your thoughts go in a helpless way, you know you should be better, you know you could be better, but you can't seem to get out of your own way and do it, and you can't seem to muster the courage to end your struggle the other way, either. This song's struck me as a way to try and reach peace in that frustration, maybe because I'm there right now, maybe because the lyrics seem to point at a sense of hope tarnished with pain and self loathing. Either way I think Mac produced true art here, his music can be interpreted to mean many things depending on the subject experiencing it, as the best art pieces do.

This is one of the most impactful songs I've ever heard. It was a shared song between me and my baby brother as we related on a lot of mental health, spiritual, and philosophical ideas. He hung himself and this song amassed gravity that challenges my ability to adapt. It is to me an honest attempt to speak on a toxic trait that is programmed into us. A stigma is put on the honest approach to the "question" how are you. I have resigned to just replying something to the effect "far to complicated to sum up in a prepackaged palletable answer" or genuinely starting a conversation attempting to full disclosure answer to my best ability. We don't want to love the darkness in people. But it is a part of them and we could do better to not white wash it. Being seen and feeling understood can be profoundly healing.

So near the very end of the video they show the Mercedes G wagon, that was macs car and it starts getting closer and then goes inside of the vehicle. Sitting in the front passenger seat is a dog the looks almost identical to his dog ralphie/Ralph sonic you look there is no one sitting in the driver seat, but if you look in the rear view mirror you can see macs face looking back at you.. symbolizing that he is gone. Also mac played almost every instrument.. and at the end he is walking into the otherwise, going into the light and we will never see him again... that's my little breakdown of macs video for you. He is my favorite artist, I named my dog after him, and I got a tattoo because of him. Macs first album dropped when he was 15 years old. From 15 years old to when he passed at 26 he made 13 mixtapes and 6 studio albums... in the span of 9 years he made 19 albums... he produced beats for countless artist and also took a ton of big artist on their first tours. He didn't just brag in his raps he made almost every kind of music there was. He would go into record stores and play a game he called record roulette. He would put on a blind fold pick 3 random vinyls (didn't matter of when they were made or what genre they were) and he would make a song out of those 3 albums. He was a special person. He he finally moved out on his own he was already a star artist and in an interview he talked about he rented his own uhaul and moved all his own stuff by himself because he wanted real life experiences and he knew being the star artist he was, that he wasn't going to get alot of those experiences. Mac was an amazing artist and an amazing person but unfortunately didn't get the love and credit for the critics until he had already passed. I hope you do more videos by Mac. Like I said he has aloy of different kinds of music, but right at the end his last 2 albums "swimming" and "circles" he really hit his stride and was making some of the best music i personally have ever heard. 1 more thing about his last 2 albums. They were made to compliment each other...the meaning of them were supposed to be "swimming in circles"... and the very last thing im going to say about the album circles I learned from a different music break down person... the album circles the very last song, the very last note of the album ends with a note that sounds off key... well it was put in there on purpose... because if you play it in a loop the last note that's off key... it hits perfectly to introduce the very first song on the album... thus creating a circle... If you made it this far down, thabk you for reading my interpretations of the album and mac, I hope you listen to more of his music and i want to thank you for your reaction. I can't wait to watch some more of your videos. Have a great day. Most dope That's forever

This song was prophetic as he died of a drug overdose and this song was about how his drug use made his mangers and friends uncomfortable. "Theres a whole lot waiting on the other side" is literally talking about the afterlife. Ironically he never heard the finished album as he was mid-production of this when he died, hence the fact that the video is made with still pics produced posthumously

I don't know how much you've discovered about Mac since this video but he grew up in Pittsburgh. Went to the same high school as Wiz Khalifa. Always had a knack for music and started young and made some great music. Watching his career progress as I grew up was an incredibly personal thing, as he went through his party phase, I did too. As he sunk lower into his depression at the end, I did as well. If you start with the KIDS album and end on the Circles album, you can truly see that all the fame and money cannot cure someone's mental illness. He struggled with his and it unfortunately won in the end. RIP to the man, Mac Miller.

for me the biggest lyric in the whole song was " there's so much more waiting for me on the other side", personally the idea of being reunited with my loved ones who are now healthy and happy and getting to be happy and not have to experience any negativity for the rest of eternity is such a beautiful thought that it brings me to tears, I have been a mac miller fan for a decade or so and the music is just so good

Great reaction Tom - really enjoying mystery week so far!!! Your numbers are looking great too - an extra 20K + subs since the live stream!? Congratulations on all your success so far! Mac Miller isn’t an artist that I have on heavy rotation, but I always enjoy his music when I do listen. This is a great track and I think was one of the first his label released after he died 3.5 years ago from an accidental overdose, RIP Mac. The melody always reminds me of that Bruno Mars song that goes ‘I just don’t feel like doing anything, I just want to stay in my bed…’ Can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us this week!

This song was written shortly before he OD'd if that puts any of it in perspective. I highly more off of his album "Circles" which was all written shortly before he died

That's so funny, I'm from a country that's known for having moody/rude or grumpy people (Czech Republic). And that's mainly because we just don't smile at each other without a reason and I swear I have so many stories from the US where all the fake smiles by cashiers were just shut by me saying HOW MY DAY HAS ACTUALLY BEEN as an honest asnwer.. Everyone from my country struggles with this when moving to US.. it's so uncomfy telling everyone "hey, how are you".. when all I need is my morning latte and silence :D

I commented on another video but Corbin's 2021 album Ghost With Skin (ctrl alt del, don't give up, Tell me). Or even some of his older stuff as Spooky Black... like Burden or Frozen Tundra (ft. Bobby raps), Without you, or reason. All great songs, but with a very depressing undertone. I think you'll really be able to break it down. Thanks and love the content!

I think "a whole lot more for me waiting on the the other side" is talking about happiness, sobriety, or at least contentment & peace in his life. "Healing" is a great way of putting it. He had hope for himself.

@7:44 An interesting tidbit: in Finland small talk isn't really a thing so phrases like "How are you?" are not very common. If someone asks that is usually means they actually want to know whats going on in your life haha
