I was around Reg, in Lewes. I knew him well, as he did myself. Reg was a quiet guy, until he wasn't, we were changing our kit one weekend, when Reg reached the head of the line. He had handed in 2 pillowcases and 2 sheets , but the civvy, shorted him on a pillowcase, Reg came directly to the small hatch where the civvy stood behind. Reg said , you've only given me one pillowcase. At which the civvy told Reg cons can't count, now fuck off out my face. The bloke wasn't small, that was obvious, when Reg dragged the guy over the counter and he got stuck in the hatch. The two screws standing our side of the laundry hatch, ran away, Reg calmy walked down the line and went in his cell. His mate Duggy Lard and myself went after Reg, to his cell, the door was wide open. You right Reg I asked, Reg looked at me with a grin, before saying, fuck sakes he did give me 2 pillowcases. Reg, Duggy, Patsy Downs, Tony Swift, Martin Ohalran a wonky jawed wrong un doing 25 for cleaving his probation officer, while on a life license for strangling some random stranger. Had some crazy times , living on Lewes prisons long term lifer training wing. Parties a distillery under the servery floor, amongst the foundations.

Thank you. Have you heard of a guy called Pete Gillette, he was a street robber. Reg, took him under his wing, he was a first time prisoner, and very out of his depth. One day Pete and a black guy called Robert Bruce, and myself lifted a manhole cover behind the servery. It was into the foundations under our wing, where we had stashed two 40 litre milk bladders, nicked from the kitchen's. Full with yeast ,currents, apples, pears and fresh orange juice, when we reached them, they'd swollen like beach balls but bigger. Robert touched one, and it exploded causing the other to go off as well. The three of us come out the manhole, covered head to foot drenched in fermented truit. We walked back onto the main wing area, past Duggy Lards cell next to Regs cell, leaving sticky alcoholic foot prints as we went. Reg stood in his cell doorway, says, fucking party went with a bang, lads.? He gave each of us a bit of loo roll and said we heard it went with a bang, twice in fact, now wipe your mouths. Reg had a ping pong ball. It hung from a thread of nylon tied to the light fitting. At head hight it hung in the middle of the cell. It puzzled me? So after a few months, while in Regs cell having a coffee n some banter, I asked him, what's with the ping pong, Reg.? At that, Reg stands up, hits the ball, it swings upwards, then zips back , towards him. Quick as quick he hits it again, changing the angle, he was using a ping pong ball, as a spread ball. Very talented man.

You know what gets me about the, twin's. They were infamous for being nasty bastards, but though I never met or knew Ron, it often gets forgotten how generous, polite and courteous they also were. It's only with criminally involved people they ever got violent with. Pete Gillette wanted to be a musician when he got released. Reg set him up with studio time, publicity and even a manager, with a record label. Or the toddler, need in brain surgery, that involved going to America. Reg used the money from his first book, to fund it. But then I watch Reg beat the living doo, daa, out of three very large chaps from Little Hampton, who were taking liberties, in front of Reg. He took the three into the recess and destroyed them. Duggy tried to go in to help Reg, who promptly growled fuck off, they're wankers.

Someone being nice or friendly inside, isn't always appreciated or seen as genuine. When Ronnie was being nice to Roy. It could have been seen by Roy as Ronnie was appeasing him. Or Ronnie working on him, to turn him into his pigeon. Seen that a few times too.

Used to spar a bit with Reg and sit in each others cells back in 96 telling stories, that’s all ppl do in jail, anyway one day he had t give someone a little slap the guy had been taking a few liberties misusing Reggie’s name and asked me t pull the guy into my cell, the guy was a mate kinda so i warned him beforehand that hes gotta take a dig but wont b hurt bad harmless stuff really. Reg head butted him, then I said he’s had enough, it was mild compared to what goes on everyday inside but yeah seeing this video reminded me some good old memories, still hear from Roberta from time t time

😅 I remember the old days of pp9s in socks tins of food and glass jars were also put in socks, the weapons made at the jail workshops were more deadly than anything you could readily get your hands on usually. I have seen guys while I worked in glenochil kitchen manage to actually get a knife out of there many years ago and it was used on someone in the yard at rec, how that was allowed to happen amazed me the lack of security around something like that they now do counts of every Sharp object in the kitchen and you have to sign out the knives now and if one does go missing you signed for, it's you who is in it up to your neck 😂 but you would struggle to get away with it they would lock down the whole prison until the knife was recovered these new style prisons are murder they are built for control of smaller groups of prisoners like on one landing you have 2 wings and both sides are monitored from a central screws desk and both sides are separated by big metal gates which are only both open during work hours or rec time, even the exercise yards are split it would be a good day if you could escape from one of them 😅
