Am I right that TC4427 can be used as an externally controlled switch to a low-power power supply? (even two of them) - without adding external circuitry?

The datasheet of this TC4420 driver shows an output Resistance High and an output resistance low at page 4 of around 3ohm. What does that mean in relation to driving these motors? Does it mean that at 0.5A drive you have a dissipation of 0.75W and a voltage drop of 1.5V at the output? How do I need to interpret that output resistance value? For mosfet driving, this resistance is not a problem because the gate driver only charges the gate and doesn't work continues. But using this as a constant motor driver that a different ball game. Help me out here

I know this post is a few years old, but is it necessary to have any type of gate resistor, or 10k to ground to fully turn off mosfet? or does the tc4420 do all that. First time trying these drivers. Thanks for the videos, they have been very helpful.

@@LewisLoflin Well I scoped the output of the TC4420 and it has good control, no resistors, just caps. I did notice while only using a logic level mosfet with 5v at the Gate, the mosfet was not pulling completely to ground(0v). The voltage drop across the Drain to Source wasnt much, not enough load I think, but the driver waveform was almost perfect squarewave.

4420 designed for driving a N and P mosfet pair? Both output pins of the 4420/4429 always connected?

The output itself is a N and P mosfet. Both are connected internally.

hiii... i repair ECU (engine control unit)...i noticed that the gate of the mosfet is connected to its source... what is the purpose behind this..the mosfet is 620TG.. plzzz suggest..thank you

@@LewisLoflin hii... this mosfet is in one of the mahindra company car ECU that i repaired last week...this mosfet makes 48 volts on its drain...the gate nd source r tied together nd supplied with 12 volts nd these r further connected to the drain of another mosfet

what would be the reason that 4420 keep malfunction after very short while ? i was not using the capacitor 22MF would that be the reason ?

If you are driving a motor directly then the motor is drawing too much current. That only works with very small motors.

@@LewisLoflin the 2 is connected to an arduino and the 1 and 8 is connected to 12 volts power supply and the ground of the power supply is connected to the Mosfet , 4 and 5 is connected to the ground of the mosfet and 6 and 7 is connected to the mosfet gate , no capacitor was put on the driver between the power and the ground of the driver

@@LewisLoflin mosfet works on voltage no ? i mean if i have 10 volts on the gate from the driver then am ok even if the mosfet connect 1200v 36A which is the rating of the mosfet right ?

@@EnergySeeker The gate-source voltage turns on the drain-source current. The voltage rating of the drain-source has nothing to do with the gate circuit. That being said be careful of ratings such as "1200v 36A" because 36A is peak current at a very low duty cycle.
