It is simply mind puzzling to find out that this man had a drinking problem for some stage of his life. Alcohol destroys the vocal chords if too much is consumed over years of use. But legends like Bhimsen Joshi manage. Probably years of building up the vocals nice and strong worked to his advantage. I am 30 years old and just now beginning my journey into Hindustani vocals... had a drinking problem throughout most of my 20s... and I definitely feel less strength in my vocal chords then before.... but we all grow and learn at different points of our life... I am just so happy I found this beautiful music, and it is something I will work on for the rest of my life 😃 it all started with bansuri 5 years ago... infact in the past 5 years I have been playing more bansuri than singing and I have been singing since I was a child. I just started taking lessons with one of Rashid Khan's disciples and during our first lesson she had me play a palta on my bansuri at the end of the lesson. She said this will be common practice during our lessons. And it's a good idea. I hope the consistent practice of bansuri and vocals will help me develop my unique style in both areas. The fusing of technique between the two instruments. 👌

Until 1947 South Asian Hindustani music was one big close unit. I wish it were true that music knows no borders.

I say this because I often wonder what it might be like to hear Nusrat Fateh Aii Khan sing some natya sangeeth.

I think a small correction is needed ...its Shree Baal Maate on the Harmonium and not Walavalkarji
@kedarpendharkar203 жыл бұрын
Harmonium Player is Shri Walavalkar , I doubt , And on Tanpura His daughter is not seen.
@milindchittal18673 жыл бұрын
Thanks for pointing out.Corrections have been made.It is Shri Narayan Deshpande on other Tanpura and Shri Bal Mate on Harmonium

Milind Ji is this not Jaijaiwanti Nat. This bandish was learnt by Bhimsen ji from Azizuddin Khan. There are records of him singing this same Bandish. You can also hear some characteristic Shudha Nat phrases also with the use of the two Gandhars.
@anirudhraghavan4 жыл бұрын
This is particularly evident in his drut bandish. nAT AND jAIJAIWANTI ELEMENTS.
@ramdasmenon09084 жыл бұрын
Dear Sri Anirudh, I am unable to hear the komal gandhar, you may pls check the sargam at 30:15 and 40:30. Also there is a lot of the shuddh ni usage in addition to the komal ni Now I know only Jaijaiwanti where the komal gandhar plays a very important role in defining the color of the raga, so perhaps this raga is indeed Jaijaiwanti Nat Pls correct me if I am wrong
@anirudhraghavan4 жыл бұрын
@@ramdasmenon0908 Sir, you are entirely correct in observing that komal gandhar is weaker and not easily heard here. It is possible to strengthen the Nat element. However, in the very passages you have highlighted, the sargam shows the use of komal gandhar. It is not as strong and distinct as Jaijaiwanti, but its chhaya can be easily heard in the andolan. So Bhimsenji singing Gandhars with two types of uccharan if you hear carefully. A simple straight application of a shuddha gandhar and an downward oscillating andolita gandhar , marking a hint of the komal element. And in Jaijaiwanti , as we know, komal gandhar cannot be used as a nyasa , it must immediately move towards rishabh. And in the sargam, Pt ji is following the same rule. You will hear the andolita chhaya of komal gandhar and it goes to rishab immediately
@anirudhraghavan4 жыл бұрын
and additionally, both in the bandish, and in Pt Ji;s aalap, you will hear the characteristic step by step ascent of Shuddha Nat - SR, RG, GM, MP - its an identifying signature of the raga. right before the sargam, if you hear the taan , you can see this element.
@Gunahegde3 жыл бұрын
HMV had brought the same Bandishes (both vilambit and drut) and it was called Jaiijaivanti.
