Comparison video between the FAL and the G3 (US model: DSA Sa58 and PTR 91). Be aware this is not a buyer's guide. It's simply a comparison between these 2 rifles based on user-friendliness, reliability and aftermarket products.

The G3 has many different stocks available actually the telescoping stock, magpul makes a stock , Spuhr , m4 style adjustable stocks as well On the subject of magazines yes the thinner aluminum magazines do dent easily however there are surplus Cetme-C magazines made of a thicker steel and I believe some German made ones too I recently ordered Cetme-C mags for $ 4.50 a peice

I went with PTR. Piles of aftermarket support for the rifle. Plus it will shoot whatever I can afford to feed it. The magazines are dirt cheap and can be found easily. Easier to clean and maintain. You don’t have to re-zero your optic every time you clean it like the Para FAL. I do love the FAL, and if things were different I would own a pile of them.

There are tons of after market stuff for the G3. Mp5 style collapsible stocks, foldable stocks, telescopic stocks etc. Different mlok and picatinny handguards, different charging handles, mag release extensions, safety levers, scope mounts... honestly, other than swapping the actual body, I dont know what isnt swappable. My setup is a copy of the Swedish AK4D. A bigger trigger guard to facilitate winter shooting with gloves, a spuhr stock and handguard, cut off iron sights and welded on picatinny on the receiver to get a good stable zero. Some no-name vertical foregrip and bipod for when I want to lay on the range and plink for a few hours.

I agree 100% but it's close. You need to keep in mind that DSArms makes much nicer rifles than PTR so it's not FN vs H&K. It's the same way with 5.56 rifles from both FN and H&K, the FN/FNC vs the H&K 93 it's the FNC for the win. I have owned several FN made FALs and H&K 91s over the last 30 years and love both, but the FN is much more user friendly and just a bit higher quality.

well said. I was able to use a genuine Portuguese FMP G3 (made in 1966 I believe) and that is a nice rifle, especially with the South African furniture on it. Yet I still prefer the FAL - just more comfy and it hits closer to home!

@shockwave6213
@shockwave6213 Жыл бұрын
Yeah this wasn't biased at all..... Its not like the G3 has aftermarket parts like the Spuhr stock (which is a glorified AR buffer tube stock), buffer tube adapters, Magpul PRS-2 stock which is pretty much a clone of the PSG-1 stock and a collapsing stock to compare to the folding FAL Para variant. There's even an ACR stock adapter if that's your thing. You can get extended selector levers and even entirely different trigger housings with grip modules. Lets talk about magazines: You complained that the Aluminum mags dent too easily. This is a complaint that I see with pretty much every Aluminum magazine in the hands of a Chimp. Well, as it turns out, there are a hell of a lot of steel G3 mags still floating around out there and are very affordable compared to FAL surplus mags. If polymer is your thing, Thermold makes G3 mags and they're quite good. I was skeptical about em but bought 3 and like em. Tough compared to most Thermolds but the price is consistent with ruggedness. Both guns have pretty equal aftermarket if you do even a little bit of digging. HK parts net is a gold mine in this regard.

How many rounds do you have through the SA58? Any parts breakage’s? I think Tim from Military Arms Channel is pretty fair minded and reasonable and he was saying he owns both the SA58 and the vintage FNH Belgian FAL’s and that the SA58 has malfunctioned on him some. It would be nice if DSA was as high of quality as a real FNH FAL but I highly doubt that is true. FAL Files people should petition FNH to make a FAL again like they are doing with the High Power clone they just put on the market. I think the ergonomics of the SCAR 17 kind of suck and like the way FALs feel much better-I’d pick a FAL over a SCAR even for similar money just wish the materials and manufacturing quality was there because I doubt most companies have as high of standards as FNH, CZ, or H&K.
@thefalguy9848
@thefalguy9848 Жыл бұрын
I got multiple SA58s and a couple of thousand rounds through all of them. I did experience some issues on them. One bolt broke on one of my FALs but DSA fixed it and ever since I have not had an issue with that rifle. My Recce one is nearing 2k rounds (if my memory serves me well) and not a single issue that is rifle related after the first 100rds and dialing in the gas system. Some are obviously mag issues and there were a couple of malfunctions due to the wide variety of ammo I used. But apart from that it's my go-to FAL. Yeah, having genuine FN FALs here would be dope. I wish they would do it too!
