Cool idea. They dispense propane tanks the same way at the local home depot/hardware store. You get a code on your phone..you enter it on keypad on machine..door pops open. You put dead item in/close door and another pops open with a new cartridge. Ezpz.

Very good idea, but is this like your spare battery that's being picked up? or is it a generic. The batteries for Ariel rider Grizzly are very specific & no generic battery is going to fit.

It has potential: swapping batteries makes much more sense that having to leave your whole bike for hours. Not quite "Public" yet if it's limited to 100 delivery riders, but it's a trial, we'll see where it goes. I'm hoping one day we'll see something similar for electric cars, where a generic removable battery can be swapped out at a charging station, and the driver can continue their journey after a few minutes rather than a few hours.

Vietnam has the same way of swapping batteries for their e-motorbike for quite some time already .. according to my Vietnamese step nephew.

I wish there was a standardized charging port for ebikes. How many adapters and voltage step up or step down would you need for 48v 52v 60v or 72v batteries?

A couple of questions I feel the news should have been asking: 1. Are these only for those Arrow e-bike? 2. What about other batteries that don't use the same charger as the arrow bike batteries? 3. Will these be available also for e-scooters? 4. What's stoping a criminal from stealing the batteries that are in those boxes?

So, they’re going to offer a charged replacement battery for every battery design? Cant wait to see that. And, how far will you have to travel to find a station that has your batty type available? Have you every tried to find a parking lot near the location you’re going to in NYC? Impossible! 😂

EBike Batteries aren't like a propane tank that is filled with a volume of gas, where you can swap it at the hardware store and its all good. Batteries have a lot more going on. I don't see this ever working. Maybe to subsidize the cost of ebikes for people that cant afford them, they might pay for some battery rental thing where you swap the batteries out and dont actually own the battery. But for basically anyone that has an electric vehicle you dont want to be swapping out random batteries all the time. Renting a battery will surely be like ... renting your modem and router from your ISP (a ripoff business model)

Batteries won't be safe in storage areas in NY. You kidding me 🤣 must have some Phone App to Unlock it to work, but Criminals will find a work around.

That swift bike we had all that here 2 years ago in uk ebikes everywhere charging at stations they were £60 per week to use they have now this year all been removed and scrapped by the council

These are great ideas, but... 1) Leaving batteries outside in temperature extremes is very bad for them. 2) Immediately recharging batteries after use is very bad for them.

Just how do they get 200 types of batteries for the 800 brands of Bikes? How many cycles has your battery been charged? Could be they test strength? Will they refuse to have batteries for bikes that go 40 mph?

I don’t see why any ebike can’t be fitted with a cradle or adapter that works with these swappable batteries, so long as they match the voltage. Of course, it’s better if your ebike is designed to work with the swappable battery format. Being able to charge at a rack is okay if you can leave it long enough to get a worthwhile charge, but I hope they make it impossible to provide too high a voltage to a battery. It would be easier if manufacturers didn’t use the same connector for different voltages (I have 36 and 48V e-bikes that use the same barrel connector).

e-bike riders can literally be cycling outside the whole day without worrying about running out of battery.

Not public though is it its for delivery riders only, its the easiest way to tax the company for it's use! No mention of cost's so what's hiding and will it be a flow like the ebike rentals all going bust

Was wondering when these be planted with the EV station's popping uo everywhere they should add them into the same station's but how much this is going to cost a delivery company per month price ofnthe battery plus service not going to save the company money thats for sure
