Wayne Morse was a remarkable man, a politician of courage and conviction, as his early opposition to the Viet Nam War showed. Thank you for posting this interview.

Wayne Morse was a very intelligent man. Oregon US Senator Morse and Alaska US Senator Ernest Gruneing were the only two Senators who voted against US involvement in the Vietnam war. I met Morse when I was ten years old in 1973 through a good family friend, Oregon State Senator Eugene Debbs Potts, who is another story of genius in himself, but all I can say is Morse was more logical and more of a true American than most other public servants in D.C. ever. We need more like him in government. People that have balls as big or close to his, servants who support the American public, not just agendas.

One other thing people don't realize is that Uncle Wayne lived in the next door apartment to the Eisenhowers, during the war, and as a result he and his wife AND daughters ALL could hear right through the thin walls. According to them, all of them, Ike beat on Mamie regularly and loudly, whenever he was home. Aunt Amy detested Ike for the rest of her life for the things she heard, and witnessed. They kept it secret though, publicly at least. Now, as they didn'tknow, Ike was raised in a fighting household, (even his mother encouraged her boys to "fight it out" ,and she even occasionally set them up to blame each other, which would lead to them fighting.) and I don't believe Aunt Amy ever realized that, but I guarantee it wouldn't have changed her opinion. She described the fighting and beatings in detail.
