Hey folks, don't go foraging puffballs yourself or honestly any mushrooms if you don't know what you're doing. They can look really similar to several other mushrooms that are deadly like death caps or destroying angels. If you are foraging please make sure to ID the mushrooms using at least 3 different identifiers before you decide to eat it. There is also probably a local ecology or foraging org that you can contact to be sure.

Just a reminder to everyone to be careful when foraging mushrooms when you're not experienced in the field. Giant puffballs are typically a safer route, because there are no other white mushrooms that get to that size before opening & are completely white on the inside. Puffballs have no gills, no stipe (stem), and have a bread-like texture inside. If your puffball is not completely white on the inside, do not eat it.

Puffballs are some of the most delicious mushrooms I've had. I believe there aren't any toxic ones. There are toxic earth balls though. The difference is the internal texture. Puffballs that are good to eat are uniformly white and smooth inside. Then they go increasingly orange or green and squishy until they dry out into an orange brown or green dust. Earthballs are a chaotic mess of white and dirt like sections. Don't eat those. EDIT: I Forgot to say, if there's any white gills inside, chuck it where not even dogs can get it and thoroughly wash your hands, your knife and your chopping board, and anything that's come in contact with it, as it could be an unopened deathcap mushroom. Absolutely deadly those are. If there are other coloured gills, who knows what it is, treat it the same unless you know better.

Oh chicken of the woods! I’ve always wanted to try some but my country doesn’t have the right climate for them. Though we do have saffron milk caps which are delicious and pumpkiny!

They grow in Europe too. I found a 3.3kg one a year ago and use them in stews. Also, dry and powder them to use in sauce to add some delicious flavour.

They are lovely to eat, I dip them in beaten egg before frying them in garlicky butter. The egg prevents them from taking up too much butter and getting soggy.

I remember being told that when you pick mushrooms you need to cut it instead of just pulling it up. If you pull it you destroy the roots so new mushrooms won't grow on that spot, but if you cut it new mushrooms will keep growing
@tavooo4278 Жыл бұрын
thats a myth
@kimhanuel561510 ай бұрын
No. Mushroom grows by spreading spores not by root. So it's okay to pull it
@bonaface10 ай бұрын
actually you're all wrong. the mycelium network is much larger than the fruiting body aka mushroom. @@kimhanuel5615
