For our course subject, The Contemporary World, we BSE-1A Group 1, proudly presents our short film, "Puhon", a thought-provoking exploration of global migration. As our contribution to raising awareness and promoting understanding of the challenges faced by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), we shine a light on the realities of modern-day heroes.
"Puhon" is a Bisaya term that means "God willing" or "hopefully", often uttered when hoping for a better future. However, for many Filipinos, leaving their loved ones behind is no longer a heroic act of sacrifice, but rather a last resort in the pursuit of economic stability and fair compensation.
Through our film, we aim to highlight the complexities and challenges faced by OFWs, who leave their families and homeland in search of a better life. We hope to inspire empathy and understanding among our audience, and to spark a conversation about the struggles and triumphs of these modern-day heroes.
By sharing their stories and experiences, we aim to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding OFWs, and to promote a more nuanced understanding of the global phenomenon of migration. Join us on this journey as we explore the realities of Puhon, and discover the resilience and determination of those who leave their mark on the world.
