Sounds like a Midland WR-120 before the siren starts up.

Thought they'd be using pagers by now instead of the town siren!

siren is much better to rally everyone, cause everyone can hear it
@HotForgeChaos2 жыл бұрын
Cell signal gets pretty spotty in a lot of areas. Pagers are meant to go off first but it can be at least 30 seconds after the siren sounds that the page comes through
@Debigchudfugger Жыл бұрын
We use pagers and a cell phone app to alert us. The chime you hear right before the siren sounds is the same sound your cellphone makes when a call comes through.

They actually mandated that the air raid sirens be used at all volunteer stations in 2019. This is interesting, as for comparison, similarly rural Northern Ireland disconnected their sirens in 1996 and replaced them with pagers and phone alerts.

why is the tone so long?
@sw61882 жыл бұрын
That was quite short really. Normally these fire sirens will wind up like that, wind down, wind up again, wind down and repeat that for 3, 4, 5 cycles until the first volunteer arrives at the station and acknowledges the call which then shuts the siren down. It needs to be loud and long so it will wake volunteers up if it is night time. Remember that these sirens are mounted outside high up on a tower so they be heard all around the town and a long way off. @@sw6188 yes I know I live in New Zealand..but they are not allowed to sound the siren at night time due to noise bylaws only if there is serious emergencies where mass evacuation is required
@sw61882 жыл бұрын
@@abecoulter8550 Not sure that's entirely correct. If it is, then it's a recent change. I used to live in a small town and the siren would often sound at all hours of the night.

@@sw6188 that is true..I phoned FENZ...they are on a system that dosent sound them during the night due to noise bylaws

@@abecoulter8550 Ok, I have a friend who works for FENZ. I will message him and see what the policy is now.
