Baseless trick

So disappointed with this. I'm leaving this review in the hope of encouraging magic producers to desist from the practice of releasing "DIY" products. Yes, it's a nice effect as seen on the trailers. However, the DIY needed, although not technically "difficult" is super-fiddly, involves superglue, and is at least 50% likely to go wrong, especially for a non-DIY type like me. And this is precisely what happened, even though I was as careful as I could be. As soon as it goes wrong, you are down to one important component of which there were two, and then can't attempt a second time properly in accordance with the instructions. Additionally, the download video glosses over an issue that is important. The video shows the can tab already nicely removed without any indication of how this was done (you need to NOT damage the can at all while removing the tab and that's not as straightforward as it sounds) and doesn't mention that the shape of hole matters a lot. There are cans with a "front to back" hole and cans with the oval of the hole lying "side to side" in the long dimension. It's this second kind that you want, though even with this kind the tolerances are very tight. Also, these cans tend to have a component that folds away into the can and which is very difficult to remove without damaging the can in exactly the area needed by this trick. Getting the original tab off the can is also not easy without damaging or buckling the thin metal top of the can, with the result that getting the gimmick to stay in position is difficult. Essentially, my trick is useless and I couldn't perform it even once. I wasted money on a DIY project that should have been constructed properly by the creator in the first place and shipped already installed. I understand that the shipping might have costed more as a result, and that the gimmick is fragile, but this is just a matter of sorting out the packing. I feel that DIY projects like this are a subtle passing of the buck of responsibility from the creators onto the user "oh well, you didn't install it right." If I am paying $40 for something it should work. I might even have paid $55-60 if I had actually been able to use the trick. Be warned.
