Beautiful fish! I've been breeding Saulosi for almost 2 years now. Four males and 13 females in my breeding colony, in a 75 gallon tank. They're my favorite mbuna by far.

Hello, i've got a saulosi tank and my fish are about 6 months now, all yellow. But at what age are the male turning blue? And how much time does it take to turn blue, overnight, weeks or months? Greetings from Amsterdam, Holland.

Hey, it's about size, not age. Anywhere from 2-3.5" Males should start turning blue. Mine usually transition around 2.5" Dominant males can turn full blue within 1-2 weeks. Subdominant males will take longer.

Have you been having success breeding? Was wondering if your Saulosi fry are born yellow or turn yellow over time?

Yes, and they are born yellow.

Thanks Ron. Been trying breeding mine as well. Have 3 batches of fry with the oldest batch over 2 1/2 months but very little to no yellow. Wondering if there is something wrong with my Saulosi parents or if it’s something I’m doing wrong. Congrats, they look great!
