Never seen a weed puller. I'll be using these techniques at my daughter's place in N.H.

Pro tip for pulling out stubborn trees. The chain is pulling horizontally behind your pickup but if you put a wheel+tire (spare from the pickup?) next to the base of the tree & lay the chain over it then to the truck it will pull more vertically. For clarity, position the tire touching the trunk so that together the combo resembles a letter “b”.

Easier to pull a tree horizontally then vertically. Your pulling against more root area by pulling straight up.

I got my puller bear late last year and love it. I am a female over 65, and have been fighting buckthorn for years. Unlike you, we have clay soil. Unless you catch it immediately after a lot of rain, even a small, less than a yard tall, buckthorn can be almost impossible to pull out. Many times on plants only a foot tall, the bark comes off but the roots stay behind. I just keep changing the angle until I start to get movement. I forget what model it was, but it has the long handle and takes trees to 2 1/2" diameter. It weighs 12.75 pounds, so it gets hauled around in the wheel barrow, and I can only do it for an hour at a time. But I have the biggest grin when i get one of the nasty trees out. I have a pile of "trophies" from my efforts. When they are dry I will burn them with great delight.

Some invasive trees like buckthorn will re sprout from roots. Even trees that are cut down may sprout from the stump. At least cut around the stump with a powered reciprocating saw. Try to get any tap root. You will get sinking soil as the roots rot. But planting seeds should be okay. Good luck with the flowers.

I was wondering if there was some kind of tool for getting these small saplings. Thank you!

I just started using a PullerBear last year. I think they are still available. It was expensive and took forever to arrive but it's well made and will last forever. It looks a lot like yours

I just started clearing land to start a small flower farm. I have quite a few really small trees.. Some i can pull out bc the ground is soft. I'm not sure if i need to pull them out or if i can cut them down. Will the roots of small trees cause problems when i plant flowers? Any advice is much appreciated! I do have a truck so im excited to at least have this option!
