Since Jules retired, Vincent went to Butch's apartment with Marcellus instead of Jules. That gun Butch uses to kill Vincent is Marcellus' gun, which he left there while he went to buy coffee and donuts while Vincent was in the bathroom. That's why Vincent didn't pay attention to the noise Butch made, since he thought it was Marcellus coming back. So it was Marcellus' fault that Vincent got killed instead of Butch getting caught because he came back for his dad's watch. Since Marcellus is the boss, I guess it's been a while since he's done any actual field work and he was rusty and it cost them all. Vincent's always in the bathroom because he does heorin and it makes you constipated, and every single time he goes to the bathroom something goes wrong: Mia overdoses, the diner gets held up, and finally he gets shot by Butch.

Also you should watch older movies that inspired Tarantino , director Sam Pekinpah ... the Wild Bunch , Iron Cross , Getaway ... violence in those does not look as bad as in modern movies , blood effect are better these day . When Mia overdosed, she snorted heroin thinking it was cocaine. When Vincent went to his dealer to buy the heroin he said he was out of balloons(which is usually the preferred method of transporting heroin) so he put it in a baggie hence why Mia thought it was cocaine.

Oh, and you can see Vincent walking in the restaurant for brief second in the 1st scene. I never noticed that until recently and I saw this movie in the theater when it came out lol.

According to Tarantino, the contents of the case are whatever the viewer wants it to be. People often think gold, maybe diamonds. Fans have theorized it’s Marcellus Wallace’s soul and point to the bandage on his neck as proof. I forget where it’s from but it’s said the devil takes your soul from the back of your neck. The bandage is a concidence, Ving Rahmes cut himself while shaving.

There was a movie in the mid '50's which had the same McGuffin, a suitcase, which the contents glowed, called "Kiss Me Deadly". Cloris Leachman was in it. It was based on a pulp fiction detective novel. Like in "Pulp Fiction", it's contents aren't revealed, although the film alludes to the possibility, that they may have something to do with nuclear power or nuclear weapons, but it's just a subtle hint of a guess.. A big student of many films, I'm sure, that Quentin Tarantino was paying homage to "Kiss Me Deadly", by using the same McGuffin.

So, quick summary of one of the principles of the Tarantinoverse: there are two "levels" of reality. There's the "real" world, and there's the movies and TV shows the people in the real world make and watch. Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are in the "real" world, while Death Proof and Machete are movies that people like Vincent would watch. Now for the reason I brought all this up: Mia told the story of how she did a TV pilot that didn't get picked up, Fox Force Five. Well guess what? A production company acquired the rights to the pilot, changed a lot of the details and locations, and turned it into a couple of movies called Kill Bill. So that means that there's a scene we will never see of Vincent and Mia at the Kill Bill premiere, giving each other knowing looks.

I watched Mary watch Pulp Fiction for the first time because I was jealous. Saw this when I was 14, with Dad...he was a little shocked at what he brought me to, but he knew I was a Cinephile - it changed my perspective on film after seeing it. The John Travolta dancing scene...so iconic, everybody who grew up in the 70's remembered Travolta from Saturday Night Fever, and in '93 - '94, Travolta's career was in the toilet...so him being able to dance on screen again, coupled with Tarantino's airtight script, brought him back into stardom. This film, or more accurately his acting, also launched Samuel L. Jackson as a mainstream star. Pulp Fiction is the all-time iconic film of the 90's in my opinion. Really a time tested classic of style, structure and acting.

The $5 shake scene flies over a lot of young peoples heads. The inflation equivalent today would be roughly $9-11 equivalent for the same shake, prepared in the same methods, for something that in cheaper establishments would cost slightly above the $5-8 buck price range of the original in 2022.

Kill Bill is extremely gory but very well made. It's not scary at all but very gory. It's frequently so over the top gory that it's almost funny. It's a great movie, I recommend it.

One of the greatest movies ever made a true masterpiece classic of classics Pulp Fiction written and directed by Quentin Tarantino with an amazing cast including John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Maria de Medeiros, Ving Rhames, Eric Stoltz, Rosanna Arquette, Christopher Walken and Bruce Willis. Thank you so much great reaction just amazing. Excellent😊😊

This movie was a much-needed shot in the arm (chest?) for Hollywood-arguably the most important seismic shift in Hollywood since “New Hollywood” partly upended the studio system in the late ‘60s (that period lasted through the very early ‘80s, then a decade of blockbusters and sequels followed until Tarantino arrived in the early ‘90s). Tarantino and Kevin Smith (whose “Clerks” broke through the same year “Pulp Fiction” came out) stressed scriptwriting that emphasized characters, their quirks, and dialogue, instead of just catch-phrases and exposition, which movies had been in the previous decade. You noted how Tarantino took his time with scenes, unlike today’s films, which seem to feel it necessary to cut to action or something else every five seconds or less, assuming we’ll stop paying attention. Tarantino trusts his audience, instead of spoon-feeding them.

Kill Bill has a lot of blood (mostly contained to a single scene), but it's over-the-top cartoonish blood. Like you cut someone's arm off and 20 liters of blood come shooting out as if it was the outlet of a hydroelectric dam. The story, though, absolutely briliant.

As far as Butch is concerned, I think you have to realise that a boxer doesn't go into the ring to make friends. Okay, they don't go into the ring to kill people either, but we are also aware that he is the favourite, that's kind of why he's prized by Marcellus as a fighter who is very 'odds on' favourite. So in a sense Butch is correct when he says of his deceased opponent _he shouldn't have gotten into the ring in the first place._ It sees to me Butch just put a little more into his punch because of the stakes, he really wanted to win because he knew it mattered, it was always going to be his last fight.

Well the joke about the rectangle was a reference to American slang where someone would say "don't be a square" - someone who doesn't do even mildly bad things.

word is that the contents of the briefcase is Marcellus Wallace's soul!! that's why he has a Band-Aid on the back of his neck.... He rented his soul to the young guys so they could do some kind of deal and not be scared and chicken out of doing the deal....

Marcellus Wallace’s bandaid was real . Ving Rhames accidentally nicked himself while shaving and because it added to the mystery of the story line they made it part of the story.

Subscribed!! You understood this movie on your first watch better than any other KZfaq reaction person I've seen. (The unlikely encounter between Butch & Marcellus was because Marcellus & Vincent were both at Butch's apartment, but Marcellus went to bring back coffee and donuts while they were waiting. That's why he was right around the corner from the apartment when he crosses the street in front of Butch)..

Kill Bill VOL 1&2 are AMAZING!!! There is a lot of violence. The gore in some parts of the movie is made somewhat "cartoonish" in the more graphic and over the top scenes. The action and violence are very stylized on purpose. They are Tarantino's homage to martial arts/revenge films of the 70's so the movies were shot in a very specific way. So yes Kill Bill's action and violence are definitely turned up quite a bit as compared to Pulp Fiction but the storytelling is still on par. You should definitely go for it. You will enjoy them.

5:53 she’s saying “Don’t be a square” (even though she drew a RECTANGLE but whatever lol) in America “square” is old slang (used mostly in the 50s and 60s) for nerd, or lame, or a buzzkill. Great reaction! This is one of my favorite movies! OMG you were so freakin adorable when you enjoyed the scene where they were dancing!

My take: Butch goes back to help Marsellus because he and Marsellus have now, albeit briefly, been fellow prisoners of war, and this triggers his honour narrative about his father, which overrides his initial impulse to leave Marsellus behind. And he chooses the samurai sword as the weapon most symbolic of honourable revenge.

Originally Tarantino wanted to use "My Sharona" as the music during the basement rape scene, but he couldn't get the rights. I'm partly glad he couldn't get to use it, as it would have sort of ruined that song for me -- but I'm ultimately more sorry that he couldn't get to use it, since it would have worked perfectly.

I absolutely recommend watching both halves of Kill Bill back to back. If you liked Pulp Fiction, you'll LOVE Kill Bill. Kill Bill Vol. 1 is REALLY gory, but it's stylized kind of gore that's way over-the-top and for the most part easier to watch than a lot of what you've already viewed on this channel.

"Don't be a square" said Mia in the convertible. She actually drew a rectangle in the air because Quentin loves to risk tiny and subtle randomness.
