Played through our first game. Wow what a game. The choices , strategy and victory path are mind blowing. A learning game but the four players had a blast. It will be making it back to the table.

Rule error: you don’t move 1 spot left/right on the track, you move the number spaces from the median marker Really great game though!

Just purchased this game this evening and set it up. I could not be happier. Setup is very well explained and fairly easy to follow. Will probably try to get to the table this weekend.

Tom I completely agree!! Awesome game with incredible variability. Tough choices with only 8 rounds and 2 dice a round(without bonus does obviously). Ap can be strong with so many good choices. Cant recommend this enough! Probably my favorite game from 2017

I think you probably meant to say this but just to clarify the rules only recommend not playing with the HQ board on your first play through the game, and not in general.

The board looks like a normal representation of outer space with lines connecting the locations. I don't see why there's so many comments about it being ugly.

Yeah, am I weird for really liking the art/design? It reminds me of the original Merchant of Venus board, and that's a good thing :) Plus, the use of arc-like components seems very creative.

Because people are *bling* . They don't care anymore, if a game design is functional or fun to play, as long as they can have their boardgame baroque. To me, Scythe looks great, yes, but it is a boring game. Terraforming Mars I much more enjoy! And yes, for me the board of this game looks OK and appropriate for it's theme, too.

Because it looks amateurish and like a prototype. I'm not asking for Scythe or Blood Rage. I'm asking for elegant, professional-looking design. Any Uwe Rosenberg game or Stefan Feld game looks 10x better than this game. It's not about the lack of flashy artwork, it's because this looks cheap, really cheap.
@markusschmidt9260

It looks amateurish TO YOU. To me, it looks rather thematic. Like an actual map would look like, not like a toy, which kind of tries to mimicry a map in a ridiculous way.

I really like it as well. I don't want it to be overblown with art. The appearance was one of the reasons I bought it.

Because I am from the same country (Czech Republic), let me explain something, please. The pronounciation of Vladimír surname is rather "Sukee" than "Suchee". Exactly, we pronounce "ch" differently, but "k" is most similar to it :-)

Even though Tom sounds enthusiastic, and I suppose those who like Caverna and such games will, it's most probably a game hard for me to appreciate. Lots of choices with little interaction is usually the opposite of fun for me. Good thing that nowadays there's a game for every taste.

Bewildered at people complaining about how the board and components look. I think it looks really inviting. I guess everyone has their own tastes. I never buy any game that has anime-style art on it because I find that ugly, but I'm clearly in a minority.

@B0rghalRantipole
@B0rghalRantipole 6 жыл бұрын
I agree it *sounds* a little complicated but once you do it yourself you'll see how simple it really is. It's a pretty smart way of giving the dice values not just overall, but based on the current roll. If you roll all 6s then they will be pretty cheap, if you roll five 1s and one 6, that six will be hella expensive.

Complaining about artwork is like complaining about what a spaghetti sauce looks like. No matter if the sauce looks good and colorful, if it's not tasty and delicious, then it shouldn't deserve to be on my table. As a matter of fact, I shouldn't care less about what my spaghetti looks like. Nobody in the world prepares their spaghetti sauce with sole purpose that it looks awesome. They want their spaghetti to taste delicious, have an exquisite flavor and sometimes possess an eccentric "je-ne-sais-quoi" in it. I judge a spaghetti sauce on the smell, who did the sauce and what other people think about it. Physical appearance should never be a criterion; it should only be considered as a plus value, no more than that. Unless it is obvious that there are pieces of trash in the spaghetti, "I won't eat your spaghetti, dear mother-in-law, because it looks bad" is something I wish you'll never say in a family dinner. Ever. By the way, if artwork is so important to you, I would suggest to not even consider to play most of the games made before 2012; otherwise, you'll be very disappointed.

Well, I don't think this is the case at all. Every cooking show I've ever seen has graded on "presentation" and look of the food. Your analogy proves AGAINST your point, really.
@InVinceIble009
@InVinceIble009 6 жыл бұрын
You're talking about tv shows. I'm talking about cooking. Like making food without fancy stuff around. Cooking in a show is completely different than home cooking. Nobody would ever try to do the stuff great cooks are trying to do on stage. But this is not even the point of my comment. Taking this exception to counter my argument is, I think, just a way to dismiss the point I'm making without even giving a try to understand the purpose of my comparison. And anyway, even if we take your tv shows argument in consideration in this discussion, the point you are making only proves that even in cooking there are exceptions to the rule, but these exceptions are made by a handfew of great people in the industry, who luckily have the name and the materials to do so. Funny... Just like in board games.

There is only one problem with this game and 'kills' it for me - in 2017, from a great major company - this level of visual ugliness should not be acceptable :( It looks like a prototype and while it could be one of the best games of the year... I would rather play next-best-game-of-the-year if that looks better. It's a good thing, though, we are finally spoiled by great production from Stonemaier, Portal, Roxley and many other publishers.

Denis Wolf I do not see, how one can junge the visual appearance so devastatingly. Having so many options in game play it is very pleasent to have a reduced design. Not every game can and should look like Scythe. The game board shows stars and nebulars, the solar systems have little planets. The iconography is mostly clear. What do you expect from such a game?

Yep, one of the first things I noticed is how bad the art is. I guess I'm superficial in that way. That in no way will stop me from trying this game out, but I won't get it before I play. I guess it goes both ways. I am often lured to buy a game based on looks, but those games have to be well-reviewed as well.

Denis Wolf if I followed that viewpoint I would have missed out on several of my favorite games. Castles of Burgundy would certainly benefit from a visual upgrade, but it is still an amazing game design that I will happily play often. I’m a fan of Roxley and Stonemaier, but I won’t purchase one of their games just because of looks. Similarly, looks will never prevent me solely from buying a game.
