Yes I agree. I was commenting on the part where you said she doesn't need to breathe. I'm a singer myself and I know she is really breathing well-I know this aria. When she is lip syncing she hardly has to breathe at all. I liked her performance.

+Mark Narins I am an Opera student as well, and I know how well she is breathing! Took me almost a year to develop a good breathing technique, not to make my inhaling sound so audible, to be perfectly comfortable and to sing perfectly legato! Her technique seems flawless to me, you can tell that from the super clear and sustained sound, which is something I highly admire! That is what I meant exactly when I said "she doesn't even need to breathe"... "Breathing" correctly has been a struggle for me, and I surely can't pull this aria off as comfortably and as good as she does, at least for the mean time!

Even short arias can be recorded in different sessions. So when you don´t hear any breathing, it´s because the mics were off that moment or the breathing was simply eliminated. But I can hear it anyway

wendy pooley Same here, first time I saw her also on the Royal Variety Performance. For myself, she and Dame Shirley Bassey stole the show when it came to singing, although so much fuss made over the pop singers !! Pumeza has had a hard life, brought up in poverty in a township, started late as a Soprano, never heard opera before she heard it on a car radio at 14 years old, then mainly self taught till she changed her course at University from being a surveyor to studying singing at the University of Cape Town, won a part in The Confessions of Zeno, written by Kevin Volans for the Handspring Puppet Theatre, and toured with it. Volans was so impressed by her voice that he organised an audition at the Royal College of Music in London and paid for her flight. She won a scholarship and the rest is history.

Class act, saw her on the recent Royal Command performance. Pumeza Matshikiza and the 77 year old Diva Shirley Bassey made squeaky voiced pop singer Ellie Goulding seem so ordinary in her ridiculous over the top long dress.
