Another great video. Back in the 1980s I pumped many high-rises in Philadelphia using a swing 650 trailer with gate valves and 6 inch barrels. Those gate valves would have to slam so hard to stop the back pressure. Technology has come such a long way. We used to use what we would call a go devil, which was a black rubber piston with an air compressor. It was always quite a show at the end of the day. There would be a cage we would attach on the end to catch it when it came through.

I was out in Toronto just last week and most everyone there blows back into the mixer and uses a cage at the end of the pipe to keep from losing the $100 go-devil. To my knowledge, the black go-devils are a more rigid version of the blue ones which we use. Less forgiving, but do a better job of getting the pipes clean.

It’s a double-edged sword. Fantastic in terms of available work, but not so fantastic in that our region has really lost all sense of community with this added growth. Can’t have it all I suppose.

Rock being a pourous material, and pumps being piston driven, when we pump chem mud, the tiny amount of water its batched with is forced into the rock quickly. The Couture was 80+mpa(12,000psi) core, all chemical. 5 gallons made almost 60 bar difference in piston pressure. Crazy what they have us send up 500'+ the horizontal, and the 38m on top 😂😂

When chatting with the Meales guys at World of Concrete, they had mentioned that the video currently up on KZfaq is quite old/outdated and they’ve tweaked several things since then. We’re hoping to become well versed in their most current method of water-washing. I can see many benefits in terms of cost saving to the contractor, as well as improved safety for the pumping company (us).

We’ve seen some pretty wild slumps here in recent years (especially for the placing-boom high rise work). It seems that same type/quality as well as fly-ash grade have changed (not for the better). We’ve had projects in which it was testing at 180mm at the pump, and coming out the end of the placing-boom on the 25th floor at an 80mm. It makes for a fairly interesting day indeed.

We’ve been using Putz pumps for 25+ years (long before KZfaq). Alliance makes a great pump, but they currently do not offer a 28Z with short-rig stability system, hence why the Putz 28Z is what I want. FYI: We had a Schwing 31XT on order in 2022, but had to bail on it in the final hour due to lack of operators. If something is shit (Ergo 2) I’ll say it’s shit. End of story.

@@RenewedLifeMedia Most excellent. I only ask because I was curious as to your experience with Alliance pumps. My buddy Dann (in a bunch of videos) ran a 12 cell high-pressure Alliance pump at his previous place of employment, he now runs a 13HPD Putz and says it vastly outperforms that Alliance. That being said, Alliance now offers a 14 cell high-pressure kit which should be comparable, or possibly even more capable than the 13HPD Putz. My buddy Morrie (also in a bunch of videos) now has one. I actually have a video coming in the next week or two featuring it. I’m eager to see it plugged into a 40+ story high rise. Full disclosure: I’m 100% biassed towards Putz as that’s what we’ve always run and what I know best. But I do appreciate certain makes/models from most every major manufacturer. I WANT THAT 28Z PUTZ!!!!

@canadianconcretepumper1979
@canadianconcretepumper1979 6 ай бұрын
So no, but… that’s a bit of a loaded discussion which would be great for a future livestream. Most modern high rise pumps have means of limiting pressure as such that when the building is still at its lower floors, the 85 bar rated boom pipe is not incurring pressures beyond its allowable limitations.

It may sound like it at times, but we have been close to trying other brands before. Putz has always taken care of us and typically had the best machine for our specific needs. Parts and service support are also strong in our area, which is probably the biggest reason why we’ve stuck with them. If you watch my videos however, there are a good number of non-Putz rigs on my wish-list as well (Schwing 31XT and Liebherr 36-5XXT being very high up there). New generation Putz 28Z with full-flex support is probably my number one though.

@@falcone2307 Typically we will hold a truck at the pump once it’s down to 3 cubic meters remaining. We’ll pump a half cubic meter once every 5-10 minutes until the next load of concrete arrives on site. If we end up having to sit for more than 10 minutes without moving mud, it’s because we done screwed up somewhere along the way.
