Howard is always pretending he is better than all the other guys (I think that is why he likes having Raj so close to him all the time as, in his own mind, it makes him look good in comparison -Not that he is necessarily right about that); and that is why it gets so much under his skin when Sheldon belittles him and Engineers in general because Sheldon doesn't buy into that false persona Howard puts up (Leonard sometimes forgets to be skeptical of it an Raj only rebukes his claims when Howard oversteps and really jumps the shark in an obvious way -But despite those occasions, Raj still idolizes Howard as a "ladies man")

I agree. Even if he begins to change the way thinks of, or speaks to women, he's unlikely to immediately change his comments to his male friends. It's actually more realistic that he doesn't get there all at once. Also it makes sense that the one fatherless character is the one confused about masculinity. Love the reactions!

Saying penny doable is way to far too. Beside he’s been doing that since he met penny, he saw it coming.

She had every right with how constantly creepy he is to her and how many comments that he makes that make women uncomfortable. Not only that but even in this episode she tried to tell him but he wasn't getting the hint.

This is basically an episode of making the woman seem like the bad guy for standing up for herself against a man who harasses them and makes them uncomfortable.

Howard is shown to be in the wrong though. Penny doesn't apologise because she feels like she has to apologise, she apologises because Leonard asks her and she owes Leonard a favour. But when they do talk, we are shown that Howard does have a side to him that isn't this creepy guy. And when Howard tries to kiss Penny, he's rightfully punished

⁠@@katie5920I know I’m two years late to this conversation and I agree that Penny was well within her rights to do what she did but I don’t think this episode really paints her in a negative light much, at least when it comes to Howard. At the end of the episode she punches Howard and he gets what he deserves. Howard is still the bad guy in this episode, the fact that he gets an apology doesn’t change that, Kripke and Raj also acknowledge that Howard is “pathetic and creepy and can’t get girls” so they still portray him as worse than Penny, even Leonard couldn’t fully defend him. Leonard was definitely pushing it by asking her to apologise but it was mainly just because of the robot competition, he wouldn’t have asked her to otherwise. He was wrong to guilt trip her but when Penny stood her ground which she had every right to Leonard called in the favour which was fair enough since she asked him to get a TV from her ex when they just met. So both of them have had to do something that isn’t fair. She didn’t apologise because the writers thought it was the right thing to do, she apologised because she gave Leonard an unfair request without informing him that her ex is 6 foot 3ish and confrontational. And she wasn’t that naive either, she knew what she was doing back then.

@@MysticClaws100 yeah but their love was a joke to me, imo. Leonard have had a couple of opportunities to be with someone better. They're story was just a cheap, knockoff version, of a chick flick film. Penny was that "popular girl" that Leonard wanted in high school but could never get and because of that, he was thirty and using pity to his advantage. And I guess you can say that Leonard was that guy that she always wanted inside, but was too hooked for the "bad boys." And it wasn't worth it to me. I don't want to knock anybody's taste because you love who you love, but they were opposites. They say, opposites attract but not all the time. Howard and Bernadette are opposites due to their religion, but they were perfect for each other. Sheldon and Amy were a match made. You could tell, by the end of the 3rd season, they were going to be together sooner or later. I understand that no relationship is perfect and no disrespect to Penny, because she is a good ride or die chick. However, I would rather have a Amy or a Bernadette over Penny anyday, to me, those two are hotter and not just for their looks either🌹🙌

To be fair Penny having to apologise wasn’t going her to make her feel all that much worse necessarily whereas winning the robot competition would’ve made Sheldon very happy.

I have been in situations, not exactly like the one shown here but still, were a woman have closed their eyes and moved forward to kiss me, quite a bit like this and without me encouraging them - so would you have thought it ok if I had punched those women like Penny did to Howard? Penny could clearly have just moved away and said no - like I did in a few of my situations. So, I asked specifically about my own situations but I would also just ask you, if you generally would think it ok if the genders had been swapped and it was a man who punched a woman for said offense or if you are a sexist bigot?
