You need money to fund an addiction, and addicts will always find the money for their habits somehow and 2. Lots of people doing well economically also have substance addiction issues. The Sweden you imply has plenty of opportunities has addicts too, locally there are professions where the practitioners are known for being functional alcoholics and narcotics users, and a certain extremely successful musician from a neighboring country is pretty famous for his "unga" habit. Poverty and unemployment do somewhat correlate with substance abuse, but lack of employment / opportunities is not the cause of substance abuse. Even when humans have all the opportunities in the world, there will still be a number who will be hooked on something.
