Something I've always adored about this song is I've never come across a vocalist singing about an animal using the word "you". It's always my dog this, my cat that but this song is personal, relatable. Not a pet, but a friend.

Before I lost my dog, I used to listen to this song and hug her and cry worried about the day Id lose her. So now that I lost her I play this song and sing it and cry and think about her and our memories. And I’ll tell you what it helps crying helps. This song is the best song I’ve ever heard about pet loss.

I discovered PUP when they released DVP, so I started following them pretty closely after that. My 12-year old golden retriever I had since I was a kid died in his sleep shortly before this video came out and this song still absolutely ruins me to this day. The first time I saw them I crowdsurfed to the front and Stefan pointed the mic at me for the chanting part. This song will always have a special place in my heart.

This has been one of my favourite songs since 2016. I used to listen and worry about the future of my cat, little did i know he would get 7 more years. He passed yesterday (writing this January 12th 2022) and listening to this song is really comforting. When my bass player first showed me this song a few years back, I cried thinking about my dog Buddy. Last year, I left him at my mom’s for a week because I was pulling double shifts at my job. I put this song on after a shift and left at 2 in the morning to drive a half hour away to pick him up. I’ve never held him so hard before. It’s been three days since Buddy has passed and it’s very much taken an huge emotional toll on me. He got me through the hard times and best times. I don’t know what I’ll do without him. I love this song even if it’s hard to think about my Buddy boy. Like Buddy, all our pets will live on in our hearts and memories.

I’ll never get to relive this era

I'm a huge Pup fan, and I never realized this song was about a dog. I had a dog named Griffey that I begged my parents to get me when we moved towns before 5th grade. That dog was my best friend. When I was 23, the week before I was going to boot camp, my parents called me and told me my dog was dying. He was just lying there on the floor with everyone around him. He was breathing so heavy. I sat down to pet him. I told him everything is okay and he's a good dog. Then he looked at me and his eyes rolled back. My dad told me he was like that for a while and he must have been just waiting for me. We wrapped his body in a blanket and had to bury him that night. It was January and the ground was hard. I kept looking and him, hoping he would wake up. His body was stiff and I knew we just had to keep digging. I still have dreams where my best friend is hanging out with me. Every time I remember that Griffey is dead, but I then decide that it doesn't matter, because even if I'm in a dream, I get to hang out with Griffey again.

This is one of my favourite PUP songs. It reminds me of my parents, I know the song is about a pet but I lost both my parents to drug overdose/alcohol abuse in the past couple years. This is one of the songs that helps me cope even though it's a sad one.

Song has steadily been breaking my heart for 4 years

I took a look at "Guilt Trip" an it was an interesting story (the video painted kind of a dark image of the character Finn was portraying), which acts as a prequel to this. This song is great, too. The music video and words told such a story! We see a kid stealing from others just to get by, then he meets a dog he cares about and sacrifices his livelihood just to help it survive. Then to see the end... so sad... and that same kid is back at the music again, a changed person... one of more compassion. Finn and the producers of the video did a great job with this; the music was great, too!
