Painting details:
"Pink Roses" is an 11"x14" watercolor on Arches 140 lb watercolor paper.
The section painted in this video is 8"x8".
It was taped to a piece of masonite with Kraft paper tape.
Colors used: cadmium red light, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium yellow light, dioxazine mauve, thalo yellow green, ultramarine blue, alizarine crimson, and magenta (all by Old Holland), and opera (by Holbein)

I think that's what I love about watercolor the most. It's so pure. All you need is paper, water, brushes, and paint. :)

I agree with you. Using watercolor needs a lot of instructions especially with colors. I kinda just learned on my own because I love using watercolor too. I wasn't a painting major but I enjoyed it a lot. I still do watercolor paintings in my free time but seeing new techniques like yours inspires me to paint more. It made me realize I can add more depth to my work when I thought it was enough as I looking at it. Thank you so much

I'm in a watercolor class right now and my teacher is driving me to the point of tears in frustration. A friend told me to check your videos out and I can safely say I just learned more in 8 minutes than I have in eight weeks of class so far! I'll definitely be checking out your other vids!!

Watching your videos gives me a lot of nostalgia of my college days. It reminds me so much of my painting classes then. Though we weren't taught like hands on every detail like this. We just learned on our own with the others having an upper hand since they have a hand on watercolor already and it's either our work got 'toasted' which got too dark or it's beginner's luck XD It's nice to be guided w/ these kind of videos for a beginner. Thank you for sharing your techniques. It's a sure gem.

Aww, glad you like my videos! I was in college 25 years ago, and my watercolor professor was excellent. He made the class very challenging but also had good tips and ideas. I think you really need that kind of instruction in watercolor, otherwise it can be awfully frustrating.

I typically skip around a lot more, particularly if I've mixed a color that I can use elsewhere in the painting. Sometimes I'll save easy areas for the afternoon when I'm becoming tired (I paint from around 8-3).

Thanks for the videos. Love your kitty. We had a tabby quite the same who had her tail removed due to a tumor. She did very well after that. Miss her lately. We called her "Stubbs." :)

Thanks! A little of both. If it's visible in white areas, I'll erase. If it's just obnoxiously dark in an area I plan to paint light colors over, I'll erase before I paint. Sometimes I'll try to erase pencil lines that are under a glaze of dry watercolor, and they won't erase. So I always try to draw as lightly as I can before I paint. That way it's not that huge of a deal if they're stuck there later, if that makes any sense!

Wow! Execellent work, your wash and value are perfect! I notice that watercolor similar to using pastel (my mediums are pastel, charchol and lead).
