Frank Oz has been bringing some of our favorite characters to life for more than 50 years from Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear of "The Muppets" to "Sesame Street's" Grover and Cookie Monster. Starting out as a puppeteer with Jim Henson in the 1960s, Oz was a driving force in the long-lasting success of "The Muppets." In his documentary "Muppet Guys Talking", Oz recruits four of his closest colleagues to discuss what made their work so special.

I cried a lot too when it happened, I was 10 years old and grew up watching Henson's works and was a huge fan. To this day it's probably the most impactful celebrity death of my life. It was like losing an uncle. And not just any uncle, that really cool uncle who taught you a lot of important lessons while also making you laugh and entertaining you.

When Disney does become interested in doing a proper Muppets reboot, these guys will all be dead. The soul of every character, will have left this Earth. On Sesame Street, interns take years to fully "inhabit" a Muppet, from the previous (and in most cases, still original) puppeteers. That's a part of the reason why that show has a successful fanbase.

Anything past 1990 is very hard to watch for me. Especially the new designs of Miss Piggy and Fozzie. The 1980s was the last prime decade for the Muppets and I wish Jim was still alive. At least Frank still did the voices for Cookie Monster and Fozzie and Grover and Miss Piggy and Animal well throughout the 90s.

In 1981 or 82, the Muppet Show was broadcast on a Sunday evening on British television, and was the talk at school or work the next day. Then, out of the blue, the weekly broadcast was moved to the late afternoon during the week to coincide with kids coming home from school. The BBC or ITV, I forget which channel it was, was so flooded by complaints from angry parents, especially dads as those were the times, that the show was put back to its original Sunday evening slot. It was not so much a question of whether the Muppet Show was for kids or adults as the fact that it was a great show for all the family to really enjoy in each other’s company. The Sunday evening slot represented no less than a slice of civilisation. It’s such a pity that today, in our technology age, that cosiness of togetherness is no more.

Without the muppets, this world would be a depressing 1 place Great Voice Actor. I only Remember him in the Blues Brothers. 6 years ago But the ABC series was so great, with great scripts and great personalities, and it wasn´t a children´s show... can´t understand what happened there. Hey Frank Oz! Nice to meet you! I’m Andrew Taylor! Frank Oz is a GOD. He´s half Dutch and half a Belgian guy from origin... I agree that Disney doesn't understand or care about The Muppets as characters or as a property. Alec Guinness sounds like him. I think he was trying to be politically correct about it because it's not in his nature to be too critical and negative about things but deep inside he knows Disney brought The Muppets down to the pits You can’t use, digital in 2 places of puppets and creature effects and expect it to look real. I Loved and still love classic Hollywood effects. Unfortunately digital effects should only supplement, not replace puppet and creature effects. He never does Baby Yoda he does master Jedi Yoda in The Phantom Minutes in the Light Side of Force 6-7-25 I love this man I know Frank wasn't part of Fraggle Rock but I wonder if he liked it. Well, furthermore, they were never HIS puppets to begin with. The characters were his, but the puppets belong to whichever series/property they're from, which is owned by whichever company owns that series/property. (Sesame Street characters are under Sesame Workshop's jurisdiction, the classic Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House characters under The Muppets Studios at Disney, and pretty much everything else is under The Jim Henson Company). Most puppeteers don't even get copy builds of their characters after retiring UNLESS it's in the form of some sort of gift (i.e. Fran Brill received a Prairie Dawn puppet from the early 90's when she retired from Sesame Street a few years ago--BUT it was a gift, not out of obligation or demand).
