The thing about puppy biting is that it actually teaches them a very important life lesson - acquired bite inhibition, or ABI.
This is the unconscious ability to control their bite force, which could be the difference between your puppy growing up to be a dangerous dog or not.
So the key is this: how do you get them to bite less, while still learning ABI?

Shove it’s own paw in its mouth when it’s playfully biting. I think it helps so they see how sharp their own bite hurts

mine is 12 weeks old... she has all the toys in the world to play with... she chooses to bite me and it hurts so bad... she bites down super hard and thrashes her head side to side 😭😭

@@tomlulgjuraj8942 my girl is 6 months now, going on 7 months in a couple weeks. she has gotten a lot better! just give it time and keep letting them know that biting isn’t okay. if she bites me, i say “no biteing”, ignore her and/or walk away, and stop playing with her until she calms down. it also helps to distract them and get their energy out. she bites the most when she has pent up energy.

Can you do a video on how to teach your puppy good walking practices? How to train them to say close by. How long should I wait until I can take them on a walk. Or a video on simple tricks to teach your puppy in the meantime while they're too young for interactions with other dogs. Like sit, lay down, stay, etc. I have heard that tires a puppy out but I'm not sure how/the best practices in training your puppy to do these?

My 12 week old puppy bites me early in the morning when we get up for the day. I’ve tried distracting some zoomies with training and it works. But when he loses attention; he plays with the cat or tries biting the couch. He has a bone, tons of plushies, and a kong. He’ll only keep them in his mouth for maybe 30 seconds and then switch to me or the couch. I’m worried if I ignore him, he’ll keep biting the couch or pillows and I don’t know how to redirect it

@@ctaylor267ct yes, he will be one year tomorrow. He still is high energy, but no longer bites the couch unless he is really stressed out/anxious. He does still try and bite us though lol. In a gentle way to get our attention, but he can also be sitting on or next to us and still want to chomp on our hands if he hasn’t had enough mental stimulation for the day.

My puppy Yūki wants to bite my hand and toes instead of her toys. She is now 8weeks and I let her bite as long as it doesn’t feels like going to puncture my skin. I always wear her out by playing chase and fetch outside.

I have a white English cream golden 10 month old male. He is biting me when I’m walking to the house. I can’t stop the biting a gun to Training with him and he exercises work but not when I need him to I don’t know why he continues his bruising me I’ve had to have x-rays on my hand it’s out of control. I think I’ve had a lot of patients at this point, tried everything like you suggested, and he won’t think we can form to anything. I’m going to create never like to create unfortunately, when he’s really hurting me I swear I didn’t notice I’ve already done that part. So I don’t know how to undo all of it I’ve done the exercise all of it this is not working. I don’t want to get an e collar,Do you have any suggestions?

My Golden puppy has come along way but when he is around children he chases and bites them playfully. I know when the child screams and runs in fear he thinks it’s more playtime. Now that my kids are scared unless he is on a leash how do I teach him without using the children. When he chases and they stop like a statue so he doesn’t keep chasing he still bites. My trainer was great but distracts puppy with treats which he doesn’t care about when he chases and bites. I’m looking for suggestions that don’t involve my children being decoys. He wants to play and he does with me but the kids can’t play in our yard with him yet (unless he is on leash with me or they are on trampoline. He gets lots of exercise eats healthy food and has a great life! But I want him to be able to be with my children unleashed at some point.

I’m sorry spellcheck really messed that up. Basically my 10 month old male white English golden retriever, continues to bite at me randomly when I’m walking through the house when we’re outside playing he’ll just start biting at the leash in my hand I have to drag him in.He jumps up and he’s flying in the air it’s my arms my legs my feet pulling my clothes he’s terrible. Otherwise he’s a good dog lol

Hi there! My husband and I got our puppy at 5 weeks and he is now 8 weeks. We have bite marks and cuts all over our hands and sometimes our legs. We have tried to tell him “ouch”, “no biting” but that hardly helps. When he does bite, we have started to sit on the couch and force him to entertain himself with toys. Is there anything else we can do? I think he was taken away from his litter too young in order to learn ABI.

My golden puppy is 12 weeks and constantly biting me. Especially my legs, I can’t walk him . Any suggestions for learning to walk? Or should I try to wear him out another way. It’s so painful I almost want to give up 😥

Don't give up! It'll get better soon. One thing you could try is giving him a frozen stuffed kong before you take him on a walk, so that he doesn't have so much pent up energy. Puppies are also really bitey when they're overtired (like a cranky toddler) so be sure ge's getting enough sleep.

My 8 weeks golden is Scott. He has so many toys I've bought him everything but he prefers to bite me. He bites real hard. I've tried using "no" and redirect with his toys but it don't seem to work.

Using play pens and baby gates when he’s in a biting mood can help so you can get away from him and let him calm down

I’m drowning over here with my 10 week old golden retriever puppy. Seriously getting to point to where I might have to give him up. Breaking my heart. I’m doing everything and nothing seems to be working!!

Hang in there - it'll get better! Make sure they're getting enough sleep (you might have to make them take a nap in their crate) and enough mental stimulation (training, puzzle toys, etc). Puppy dates and puppy kindergarten can help too!
