I saw this Poppea in NYC tonight - the final day of their entire tour. It was stunning - "transcendent" is exactly the right word that I thought of when listening to this final duet. All three performances of the trilogy (and performers) were magnificent and flawless - perhaps the best live concerts I have ever experienced in NYC. I wish they will put out Blu-ray box set of this trilogy tour.

We also saw it last night in New York with the same cast and orchestra. Stunning is exactly right.

I saw this Poppea in Paris at the Philharmonie: quite simply stunning. The choices of countertenor and soprano for Nerone & Poppea were so complementary. A marvelous Seneca, as well. Captivating from beginning to end: the musical execution was, as expected, utterly brilliant. I am a huge Monteverdi fan (I've attended 3 other Monteverdi operas so far this year), and this performance was a bonafide and pure delight. Thank you to JE Gardiner, the musicians and the singers---your rendition will be tough to equal, let alone surpass.

I heard this last night in Chicago and it was probably the most perfect and perfectly executed aria I've ever seen. Simply transcendent.

I love the intimacy rather than the usual triumphalism in this performance. I can only lament that I could not get to anywhere in the world that Les AF have been performing Monteverdi. Truly one of the greatest regrets of my life.
