Ahead of the Swanage Railway's annual 'Diesel Gala', a convoy of visiting locomotives would travel to Dorset via the main line link at Wareham, on Wednesday 8th May.
Travelling down from the Severn Valley Railway was the Diesel Traction Group's Class 52 No. D1015 'Western Champion'. The Western Hydraulic would travel light engine from Kidderminster to Eastleigh, where it would collect the Harry Needle Railroad Company's Class 20s Nos. 20302 and 20311, and Large Logo liveried Class 50 No. 50021 'Rodney', which is owned by Paul Spracklen. From here, the convoy would continue to the Purbecks, via Southampton and Bournemouth.
We begin at Shawford Junction, with D1015 ambling past Sheep Wash Bridge, on the approach to Eastleigh. Later that afternoon, and with the 20s and 50 in tow, the ensemble are seen departing Eastleigh station, filmed from the bridge on Campbell Road.
