The committed Purdue football fanatic is determined to live life on his own terms despite the terminal diagnosis. Tyler not only has the support of his family and friends, but also the Boilermakers football team.

ESPN: "How did he look to you?" David Blough (Purdue QB): "To me he looks like a Boilermaker. He looks like somebody who is going to fight until there is no fight." Well said David Blough. Godspeed Tyler Trent. Proud to be a Purdue Alum.

I was disappointed for Trent yesterday because Purdue got beat by Michigan State. I actually hope that fires them up for next week. I don't want to lose because it will take us out of the top 25 for sure after losing to Penn State yesterday, but if it's keeping Tyler's fight going, I'll take that loss.

It boggles my mind how people like this can maintain such a positive mindset. I mean, I’m an 18 year old kid who’s lost every single opportunity to play sports due to injuries and now, I’m easily irritable and pretty much walk around like I have a stick up my ass. I can still play but not competitively, and it really gets me mad. Meanwhile, this young man who had so much taken away from him still manages to crack a smile. However, when he broke down crying, it broke me as well, knowing that you can tell people you’re fine and that everything’s ok, but there are those things....these...dark.. things on the inside that sometimes gets the best of us. I never heard of Tyler until now but he’s definitely sparked something in me, and I hope I can use it to change for the better. Tyler, you were taken way too soon bud but I really hope you found the peace and comfort you were looking for. RIP.

GreenBaray38 the spirit is an unbelievable force, it can help you move mountains and crush with no Effort. I can relate to your story. After going homeless for 4 yrs (2001 - 2005) and almost giving up on life I finally got a break. Have been healing ever since. What I did learn is you are stronger than you think. My wish for you is a wonderful life, you are stronger than you think. I played sports as well and when it ended I was lost, but slowly learned to use that competitive spirit in other ways in my life. I wish that for you too. I hope you’re doing well. Stay strong young man, you will become a great force in the world and like Mr Trent, you will inspire others as well.

Shows that there are things more important than football games, but as long as they keep Tyler going, I hope they're ready to kick Iowa next week. May you forever rest in peace young man. You have inspired more people than some do in over 100 years of being on this earth and you did it within months! You were an amazing sight of Faith, love and inspiration and you did it all at 20 years old. Thank you for the courage Tyler, thank you for being you. RIP

My history teacher showed this this to my class this morning and I was literally holding back tears, probably because I had a friend that died of lymphocytic cancer which does this, he luckily was like this for only a few days before he passed after getting cancer for the 3rd time

So glad that Purdue won tonight. Stories like these are truly diamonds in what has become the sea of filth that is organized sports. God bless Tyler. Tonight everyone is a Boilermaker.

Why is Football such as great game? It is emotional stories like this. It is the reflection of life and how it plays out on and off the field. The courage and strength of Tyler and his family goes beyond the game but at the same time it impacts the game incredibly. As a Father and coach my heart goes out to this wonderful family. Tyler if you read this I wanted to let you know that your words and courage will be told and will inspire young men to fight and never give up. Thank you! Peace and Prayers from my family. God bless you and your Mom and Dad. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
