Well they went with cheap actors and shit script. The overall concept was pretty good... but not everything translate well they were too many side shoots two characters that didn't matter.

actually the tomahawk is targeting the Buoys, not the ships themself. The aliens did weird shit and messed up the tracking or something, so the tomahawks couldnt actually lock on/ follow the alien ship

look at the aliens they only have scanning devices which what they did to that engine of the boats and also those rolling things aee actually for dining and mining minerals, what they caught one alien and incocer its make it gaved the captain(main character) some fragments of memories which shows an alien and human war. you can clearly see the aliens are holdings guns on that scene.

The acting that explains the story is so horrible that I had to cut it out or no one would watch these videos. The storyline is actually not that bad an alien ship lands and starts to attack Earth. The regular military gets locked out by a force field and the only thing left is a decommissioned Battleship Missouri. So they Crank That Thing Up and have this fight. So over all the storyline was not that bad but the actors forgiven a terrible script. A lot of useless side trash was pumped in on the side leading to a poorly delivered story however exceptionally good graphics and all that. That's why this movie is remembered like this today

Late to the party, but if I remember correctly it was shown early in the movie that the aliens jammed the missile guidance systems and made them fly off in random directions, rendering them useless.

Yeah when I edited this I was thinking the CGI was pretty good and the designs were okay. But the movie like Transformers was pumped full of a bunch of human bullshit. unfortunately it is a necessity because it takes a long time to render draft picks of this quality. Michael Bay explained that a full-length film of only Transformers and minimal humans was unrealistic at that time because the render time on the graphics would take too long

Because the real world counterparts of the vessels used in the flim also have a single 5 inches (127mm) cannon Why would the navy installed more than 1 cannon that only capable of firing less than 100km when they can installed more vertical launcher that can be used to launch several type of missile like the Tomahawk that have 41 time the range compared to the main cannon
